The Plateau State Government has unveiled plans to establish an Alternative Burial Ground in response to the increasing demand for burial spaces across the state. As part of the initiative, the government has inaugurated a committee to oversee the project and is inviting public input to guide the process.

In a public notice issued by the government, residents, community-based organizations (CBOs), religious bodies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society organizations (CSOs) have been called upon to submit memos, proposals, or suggestions regarding potential locations, environmental concerns, and other relevant factors that could aid the successful siting of the burial ground.

Furthermore, individuals, groups, or organizations that own suitable parcels of land are encouraged to submit offers for consideration. According to the notice, eligible land must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 4 hectares in size
  • Located in an accessible area in alignment with the Greater Jos Master Plan
  • Capable of serving future burial needs with minimal impact on nearby communities

All submissions should be directed to the Chairman of the Alternative Burial Ground Committee, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Town Planning.

Submissions are to be made within two weeks from the date of the announcement. For inquiries or more information, the public may contact the committee via 08033221122 or 0803638564.
