Instagram users could soon see more ways to tune their content, according to a recent post from Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

Specifically, Mosseri was showing off new ways that users might access Your Algorithm, a feature that allows them to specify which topics they want to see more of, and less of. Instagram launched Your Algorithm last year and has been introducing it to more areas of the app.

“We want to evolve Your Algorithm from a setting to something that feels central to your experience on Instagram,” Mosseri said. He also noted, “Some of this is testing now, some is coming soon, some might not work.”

The examples in his post include one where pulling down in your Instagram feed eventually brings up the Your Algorithm menu, and another where swiping up from a Reel could bring up a similar customization prompt. A third shows buttons beneath each Reel to indicate whether or not  you want to see more Reels like it.

The most popular comments on Mosseri’s post all make the same request. As one user put it, “WE JUST WANT OUR ALGORITHM TO SHOW THE PPL WE FOLLOW.”

The Action Peoples Party, APP, in Imo State says it is fully prepared to contest the 2027 general elections and believes it will win.

During a press conference in Owerri, the party’s chairman, Chief Ernest Njesi, said the party has already uploaded all its candidates to INEC.

These include 3 candidates for the Senate, 10 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 27 candidates for the Imo State House of Assembly.

He said the party will continue visiting communities across Imo State to encourage people to support the APP and educate voters about its programmes.

Njesi also announced that the party’s leader in Imo State, Dr Chima Matthew Amadi, plans to contest for the Imo East (Owerri Zone) Senate seat in 2027.

He added that after the Senate election, Dr Amadi intends to pursue his ambition of becoming the Governor of Imo State.

The APP leadership also condemned what it described as an attack on its state secretariat and the destruction of one of its billboards.

The party alleged that political opponents were responsible and said such actions would not stop it from participating in the elections.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Amb. Steve Nnadi, called on journalists to report the truth without fear and urged Imo residents to support and vote for the APP in the 2027 elections.

“The APP is telling the people of Imo State that it is ready for the 2027 elections, has chosen its candidates, believes it can win, and says it will not be intimidated by alleged political attacks.”

MTN ADVERT

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched a new technical package containing seven proven strategies to help governments and communities prevent drowning, one of the leading causes of death among children globally.

The initiative, known by the acronym PROTECT, was unveiled ahead of World Drowning Prevention Day, observed annually on 25 July.

In a statement issued on Thursday, WHO said nearly 300,000 people die from drowning every year, making it one of the 10 leading causes of death among children aged five to 14 years worldwide.

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus described every drowning as a preventable tragedy and urged governments to adopt practical, evidence-based measures to save lives.

Mr Ghebreyesus said preventing drowning requires coordinated action across sectors rather than the efforts of a single ministry.

“The seven measures are packaged under the acronym, PROTECT, translating the Global Strategy for Drowning Prevention into practical policy guidance for countries,” he said.

According to him, the package focuses on safer physical infrastructure around water, improved rescue and resuscitation services, occupational safety for water-related work and stronger safety standards for water transport.

It also promotes swimming and water safety education, stronger childcare and safeguarding systems, and better preparedness for floods and other emergencies.

Mr Ghebreyesus said WHO launched the PROTECT package in Ghana in recognition of the country’s growing commitment to drowning prevention and efforts to improve water safety.

He said it estimated that more than 1,100 people died from drowning annually in Ghana, equivalent to approximately three deaths every day.

Mr Ghebreyesus said that children and young adults accounted for the highest burden.

WHO boss said that Ghana’s leadership demonstrated how evidence-based policies could reduce drowning deaths and encouraged other governments to adopt similar preventive measures.

Kelly Henning, who leads the public health programme at Bloomberg Philanthropies, said the framework would save lives, while strengthening global efforts to reduce drowning through proven interventions.

Mr Henning said that since 2014, Bloomberg Philanthropies had partnered with WHO on drowning prevention.

World Drowning Prevention Day theme, “Unite to Turn the Tide,” calls for coordinated action by governments, partners and communities to prevent drowning and save lives.
