Retired Naval Commodore Isaac Mashingil Mankilik has formally withdrawn from the Plateau Central Senatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to preserve unity, peace and stability within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Bokkos, Plateau State, Mankilik said his decision followed consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across Plateau Central Senatorial District.
He explained that although his aspiration was driven by a commitment to “Security First” and quality representation, he believed stepping down was necessary to strengthen cohesion within the party.
According to him, true leadership sometimes requires prioritising collective stability over personal ambition.
“As a retired Naval Commodore who has spent his lifetime in service to our nation, my resolve to fight for the collective good has never wavered,” he stated.
Mankilik, a founding member of the APC in Plateau State, noted that he carefully considered the advice of party stakeholders before arriving at the decision to withdraw from the race.
He said the move was aimed at reducing political tension within the senatorial district and ensuring a united front for the party in the forthcoming elections.
“To defuse rising political apprehensions, reduce volatility, and foster absolute cohesion within our party ahead of the general elections, I have made the strategic decision to step down from the Plateau Central Senatorial primary race,” he announced.
He added that leadership is not solely about occupying office but also about making sacrifices that serve the broader interest of the people.
The retired officer expressed appreciation to his supporters and campaign team, popularly known as the “Click Mankilik” structure, for their commitment and dedication throughout the campaign.
He urged his supporters to remain peaceful, disciplined and loyal to the APC, stressing the importance of unity in securing electoral victory.
“This is not the end of our mission, but a transition to a broader role in ensuring our party’s success,” he said.
Mankilik reaffirmed his continued commitment to the development and progress of Plateau Central Senatorial District, Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
