Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, is currently in closed-door meeting with former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

The meeting reportedly follows the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, upload of Amaechi’s name and that of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on its website ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recall that the ADC had officially announced Amaechi as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The visit came shortly after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday affirmed David Mark’s leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

At the time of filing this report, details of the meeting cannot be ascertained, but it is not unconnected to next year’s election.

Earlier, Amaechi had met with former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Barkin Ladi State Assembly Constituency, Hon. Hitler Joshua Pwajok, has expressed sadness over the death of seven miners who lost their lives in a mining pit collapse at Gassa community, Barkin Ladi (Gwol) Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Pwajok condoled with the families of the victims and the Gassa community, describing the incident as a painful loss while urging miners to adhere strictly to safety standards and government regulations.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, August 12, 2026, when the mining pit collapsed while the victims were carrying out mining activities at the site.

Reacting to the tragedy, Pwajok urged mining operators to prioritise the safety of workers and communities by adopting responsible mining practices.

“The loss of these lives is deeply painful. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the seven miners and the entire Gassa community at this difficult moment,” he said.

He called on miners to comply with relevant government regulations and safety requirements, stressing that economic activities should not be carried out at the expense of human lives.

“Mining must be carried out responsibly, with strict adherence to safety standards and government regulations. The protection of human lives must remain a priority in every mining operation,” Pwajok stated.

The PDP candidate also urged relevant authorities to strengthen monitoring and enforcement at mining sites across the state to prevent similar tragedies.
