Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, senatorial aspirant for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Aisha Yesufu, has told the national leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, that it seems he is fighting a war no one is waging against him.

Yesufu said this in a lengthy post on her verified X handle on Thursday, in response to Dickson’s interview on Wednesday night.

She said the interview was so painfully appalling to watch, adding that he ought to pacify aggrieved members instead of using hurtful words on them.

Dickson, in the interview, said because Yesufu is popular on social media and well-known, she may not want to play by the rules.

Reacting to the interview, Yesufu said, “It seems as if you are fighting a war no one is waging with you.

“You rather ended up antagonising the very people you would need to win election. Every vote counts! A leader must stoop to conquer!

“Your first one-on-one interview after primaries and instead of selling your candidates and giving confidence to people on how set the road to winning the 2027 election was, you made it about yourself.

“With all due respect sir, it looks as if you consider the NDC a Special Purpose Vehicle whose aim has been achieved just by being registered instead of a Political Party whose aim is to win the 2027 General election decisively. The registration of NDC should be a means to an end and not an end in itself.”

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says his campaign for the 2027 presidential election will focus on resetting Nigeria and putting Nigerians’ interests ahead of political, ethnic and religious considerations.

Makinde said this in his latest newsletter, describing the 2027 campaign as an opportunity for Nigerians to discuss the country’s challenges, future and the kind of leadership it needs.

“For me, this campaign will be about putting Nigerians first,” he said.

He said his campaign would seek to “reset our country so that it works for all Nigerians, not just a select few”.

The governor said he would visit the six geopolitical zones in the coming months to meet stakeholders, present his ideas and listen to Nigerians.

“I want to hear directly from Nigerians: workers whose incomes no longer meet their basic needs; business owners struggling to remain open; farmers concerned about security, production and access to markets; young people seeking opportunities to build meaningful lives; and families who want to feel safe in their homes and communities,” he said.

Makinde said his manifesto, known as “The Reset Agenda”, is being reviewed by stakeholders.

He said it would address major issues such as security, the economy, the cost of living and food security.

He added that the manifesto would explain how his proposed policies would be implemented, funded and measured.

He urged voters to judge candidates by their records, ideas and ability to deliver rather than slogans, personalities and political entertainment.

YPP candidate outlines plans for peacebuilding, infrastructure, youth empowerment, healthcare, education and environmental restoration

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, Sanda, has unveiled his campaign manifesto, promising a new approach to representation focused on security, development, economic empowerment and accountability.

Sanda unveiled his agenda during a press conference held at the Bishop Court, Jos, where he outlined his vision for addressing some of the major challenges confronting residents of Bassa/Jos North.

He said his decision to contest the Federal Constituency seat followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and was motivated by the need to provide effective representation that would ensure the genuine interests and aspirations of constituents are properly presented at the National Assembly.

According to him, Bassa/Jos North needs a representative who can effectively articulate, negotiate and defend the interests of the people and Plateau State before the Federal Government and its agencies.

Peace and Security at the Centre of His Agenda

Sanda placed peace and security among his major legislative priorities, saying he would work closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders and government security agencies to strengthen peace and security across the constituency.

He expressed concern over the destruction caused by years of violence in parts of Bassa/Jos North and pledged to support a comprehensive programme of reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation.

“As I lament the colossal destruction caused by years of bloodshed in some parts of Bassa/Jos North, I promise to liaise with relevant stakeholders to initiate and support a comprehensive policy of reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation aimed at healing wounds, restoring mutual confidence and resuscitating development.”

He stressed that sustainable peace cannot be imposed from outside, insisting that communities affected by conflict must be directly involved in finding solutions.

“We cannot negotiate peace for the people; we must negotiate peace with them, by first identifying and addressing what went wrong in the first place.”

The YPP candidate also challenged the widely held argument that youth unemployment is the primary driver of violence.

He argued that conflicts often destroy businesses, homes and sources of livelihood, ultimately worsening unemployment and poverty.

Sanda therefore called for greater investment in productive ventures that would create opportunities, strengthen livelihoods and build stronger communities.

Jobs, Infrastructure and Economic Opportunities

On development, Sanda promised to pursue federal interventions capable of addressing the infrastructural deficits confronting Bassa/Jos North.

He said he would lobby for the rehabilitation and upgrading of both rural and urban roads while pushing for improved access to quality primary healthcare across the constituency.

He also outlined plans to promote economic opportunities for young people and women, particularly through digital skills acquisition, agricultural support and entrepreneurship development.

According to him, empowering residents economically would not only reduce poverty but also contribute to peace and sustainable development within the constituency.

Education and Technology

Education also featured prominently in Sanda’s manifesto.

He said he would seek partnerships with local and international non-governmental organisations to support the renovation and upgrading of educational facilities while promoting technology-driven learning opportunities for young people.

He noted that access to modern education and digital skills would be critical in preparing youths in Bassa/Jos North for emerging opportunities in the global economy.

Sanda Raises Alarm Over Mining, Environmental Degradation

Sanda also raised concerns over the environmental impact of decades of mining activities across Plateau State, particularly in Bassa/Jos North.

He identified abandoned mining ponds, destruction of farmlands and other forms of environmental degradation as challenges requiring urgent government attention.

He pledged to advocate for proper assessment of the environmental and health consequences of mining activities, alongside remediation and compensation where justified.

“There are several abandoned mining ponds scattered across Bassa/Jos North, in addition to the extensive loss of farmlands and other environmental resources. There are also concerns about the long-term environmental and health implications associated with mining activities. Our people deserve a better deal.”

Promises Open-Door Representation

Beyond legislation, Sanda promised to adopt an open-door approach to representation, with regular town hall meetings and grassroots consultations forming part of his proposed engagement with constituents.

He said such engagements would give residents an opportunity to participate directly in identifying priorities and shaping decisions that affect their communities.

According to him, his aspiration is built around effective representation, accountability and sustainable development, with a commitment to serving with integrity, vision and dedication if elected.

As the 2027 election approaches, Sanda expressed confidence in his chances and called on constituents, stakeholders and the media to support his campaign as he seeks to represent the people of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
