Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Very Rev Fr Polycarp Lubo.

Fr Lubo reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025, at a hospital in Jos, the state capital, after a brief illness following a recent accident.

The news of his passing was confirmed in a statement issued by the Archdiocesan Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, Rev Fr Daniel Gyang.

“On a sad note but with total submission to the will of God, we hereby announce the passing unto eternal glory of Very Rev Fr Dr Polycap Lubo, who passed on to eternal glory in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday 15th June 2025,” the statement read.

The Archbishop extended condolences to Fr Lubo’s immediate family, the Plateau State CAN chapter, the Presbyterium of Jos, the parishioners of St. William’s Parish, Zawan—where he served as Parish Priest and Dean of Zawan Deanery—as well as to all the religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese.

In his condolence message on Sunday, Governor Mutfwang described Fr Lubo’s death as “a monumental loss to his immediate family, the Plateau State CAN family, and indeed the entire state and nation.”

“Fr Lubo laboured tirelessly in the Lord’s vineyard, nurturing his flock and directing countless souls toward the Kingdom of God,” Mutfwang said.

The governor praised Fr Lubo’s unwavering commitment to peace and unity in Plateau State, noting that his legacy would resonate for generations to come.

He also reflected on the priest’s cheerful spirit and unshakable faith, invoking the words of Apostle Paul: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

“Fr Lubo’s life exemplified Christ-like service, generosity, and courage—qualities that extended far beyond the pulpit,” Mutfwang added.

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed the optimism that President Bola Tinubu already has the backing of Osun State in the 2027 general elections.
Ahmad made this statement in a post on his verified X handle on Thursday.

This came after Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Thursday visited Tinubu alongside other members of the state chapter of Accord Party and presented him his Certificate of Return.

Reacting, Ahmad said, “President Bola Tinubu has Osun on both sides, with the ruling party (Accord) and the main opposition (APC) both firmly within his political orbit.

“For President Tinubu, Osun is already in the bag. The political dynamics in the state have already pointed in one direction, the Renewed Hope and victory in 2027.”

DAILY POST reports that Adeleke won the August 15, 2026 election after polling 511,067 votes against his opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, scored 17,180 votes coming third on the ballot.

Mr Mukhtar Galadima has officially begun his campaign for the Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in Taraba, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), promising a legislative revolution for the constituents if elected.

Galadima’s vision centres on an ambitious legislative agenda to sponsor a landmark bill to designate the Wukari/Ibi axis as a Special Economic Development Zone to harness the region’s vast natural resources.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the town planner and Member of the National Institute, Jos, said that the Bill would materialise through partnership with the Ministry of regional development.

“There is a regional development ministry, and I want to see that axis captured as a special regional development corridor, looking at the availability of resources that we have there.

“By the time we come up with a bill that will demarcate and delineate my constituency as a special development zone, it will go a long way in taking care of all the needs of our people,” he said.

Galadima, who retired as the Director of Development Control in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration, described his entry into elective politics as a direct response to a “clarion call” from constituents seeking a credible alternative.

He stressed that the voices of Wukari and Ibi have gone unheard for too long, positioning his professional experience, competency, and extensive network as the tools needed to reverse regional neglect.

He identified the severe infrastructural deficits plaguing Southern Taraba as a serious concern, adding that roads connecting the constituency to Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue states remain in poor condition, stalling regional trade and mobility.

He outlined a clear hierarchy of immediate deliverables, placing public health and key infrastructure at the top of his agenda.

Galadima revealed that he has personally funded a 50-bed healthcare facility, slated to open before the end of the year and integrated with the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure affordable, accessible care for all constituents.

Emphasising its role as a regional economic artery, Galadima pledged to lobby for the completion of the long-abandoned Ibi Bridge project to connect Taraba to Plateau, Bauchi, Nasarawa, and the FCT.

Addressing the longstanding Tiv-Jukun conflicts, Galadima offered himself as a unifying mediator.

“I want to be that bridge that will bring the two sides together. It has been my dream since childhood,” he noted, proposing regular, inclusive town hall meetings to foster dialogue.

To maintain continuous grassroots connection, Galadima announced plans to establish a Constituency Consultative Assembly with physical offices established across ward, local government, and constituency levels.

Acknowledging the limits of the legislative office, Galadima emphasised that attracting development requires proactive diplomacy.

“We are legislators, not executives, but through dialogue, collaboration, consultation, and cooperation, we will attract development to our area, by the special grace of God.”(NAN)
