The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has announced the arrest of 26 suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Pankshin Local Government Area. Among those arrested are Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, who are believed to be involved in the attack that led to the tragic death of Safwan Adamu Fade.

Safwan Adamu Fade, an NYSC corps member serving at the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Pankshin, was brutally beaten to death by hoodlums on January 22, 2025. The incident occurred at the Pankshin Township Stadium, where the victim was reportedly attacked by a group of unidentified individuals.

According to Commissioner Adesina, the police received a report from Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA at around 7:00 am on January 23, 2025. The report detailed how the corps member had been severely assaulted the previous evening at approximately 6:00 pm. Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Pankshin Division was immediately dispatched to the scene, where the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Initially, doctors declared the victim stable, but due to complications, he was transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). Unfortunately, Safwan succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

In a statement, Commissioner Adesina revealed that thorough investigations led to the identification and arrest of two key suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators still at large, with plans to bring them to justice.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to the law-abiding citizens of Plateau State for their cooperation in combating crime. He highlighted the command’s recent successes in cracking down on criminal activities, which have resulted in numerous arrests and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

Adesina emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the police, the media, and the public in fighting crime. “The support of the media and the publicity given to police activities have been tremendous. The public is better informed and educated on the good intentions of the police towards them and the need to form a strong alliance against the men of the underworld,” he stated.

The Plateau State Police Command remains committed to ensuring safety and security across the state, urging residents to report any suspicious activities promptly.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for increased vigilance and community involvement in curbing violence and protecting vulnerable individuals, including NYSC members serving in remote areas.

The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed claims of an impending terrorist attack in the state following the circulation of a viral video on social media warning residents of possible attacks in some communities.

In a statement issued by the command, the police described the claims contained in the video, allegedly made by a cleric, as unverified and lacking credible intelligence backing.

The command expressed concern over the panic generated by the video and warned residents against spreading unconfirmed information capable of creating fear and tension across the state.

According to the police, security agencies immediately activated intelligence and operational mechanisms to assess the authenticity of the claims and determine whether there was any threat to public safety.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Felix Ohagwu, was said to have ordered a thorough investigation into the source and content of the viral video. The command also disclosed that surveillance operations, intelligence gathering and security deployments had been intensified, particularly in vulnerable areas, to forestall any security breach.

The police, however, reassured residents that there is currently no confirmed intelligence suggesting any imminent attack in Ondo State.

The command added that it remains on high alert in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

Residents were advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies while relying only on verified sources for security-related information.

The police further reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and public order through continued collaboration with community leaders, traditional rulers, vigilante groups and other stakeholders in the state.

What ClickUp’s mass layoff tells us about the future of work

AI’s biggest champions have argued for some time that the technology will usher in an era of unprecedented productivity gains, richly rewarding workers who harness it while displacing those who don’t.

Zeb Evans, CEO of the collaboration software startup ClickUp, claims that this shift is imminent. Last Thursday, Evans announced on X that the company, which was last valued in 2021 at $4 billion, had laid off 22% of its workforce yet characterized that reduction as not a cost-cutting measure, but rather a radical embrace of AI that will propel the company to the next level.

“Most savings from this change will flow directly back into the people who stay. We’ll be introducing million-dollar salary bands. If you create outsized impact using AI, you’ll be paid outside of traditional bands,” Evans wrote.

ClickUp recently introduced roughly 3,000 internal AI agents to handle a wide range of complex tasks on behalf of its employees, according to a Fortune article published several days ago. Instead of performing the work themselves, staff members are now expected to direct these agents and ultimately review the output to ensure it meets the company’s standards.

Evans’s goal, according to his X post, is for AI to turbocharge ClickUp into a “100x org.”

ClickUp is not alone in its hope that AI agents will provide massive productivity gains.

In fact, according to a recent Gartner survey, about 80% of companies using autonomous tech have cut jobs. However, the study found that workforce reductions aren’t necessarily translating into meaningful financial returns.

While Gartner’s findings suggest some companies use unproven AI as an excuse to downsize, ClickUp maintains it is not one of them.

Evans told TechCrunch via email that the startup is indeed seeing productivity gains from AI agents. Not only is ClickUp measuring those efficiencies internally, but it’s also apparently gearing up to include them in a forthcoming product for its customers.

“Instead of gamifying token cost, we gamify value created and time saved,” Evans wrote.

In recent months, a growing number of companies have started monitoring employee token consumption, using it as a metric to see who is actually adopting AI tools. But critics argue that “tokenmaxxing”—as this concept is known—is the wrong metric because it simply racks up AI expenses.

“The people that automate their jobs with AI will always have a job,” Evans claimed in his post. But if AI keeps taking over more tasks, ClickUp will eventually need fewer and fewer people, eliminating those who fail to automate their functions well.

Tech circles have long theorized about this scenario.

One extreme example of a high-profile startup using AI automation to the max already exists. Polsia, a one-year-old startup that claims to handle all software operations for solopreneurs, is run by just one person: its founder and CEO, Ben Broca. That efficiency is apparently paying off: Polsia just raised $30 million at a $250 million valuation.
