Tragedy struck Plateau State again on Sunday night as gunmen attacked Ikn’gwakap community, headquarters of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area, killing six people and razing several houses.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who came in large numbers around midnight, shot sporadically, leaving residents fleeing in panic.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Mushere Youth Movement, Kutyil Gashion Nahum, described the attack as brutal and unacceptable.
“On the night of Sunday, September 14, 2025, six innocent persons, including women and children, were brutally murdered in their sleep in Ikn’gwakap. Several others remain missing, leaving families in fear, trauma, and uncertainty,” the statement read.
He lamented that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, no arrests have been made. “This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area,” he added, calling on government at all levels to rise to its duty of protecting lives and property.
The youth leader further urged residents to remain united and vigilant while pressing peacefully for justice and lasting peace, insisting that “the blood of the people must not continue to be shed in vain. The time for decisive action is now.”
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on the same night, kidnappers invaded a residence in Dong community, Jos North LGA, around 10 p.m., and abducted two young children.
“We are just at the house now. Since the incident happened, we have not seen the two children,” a resident, Mark Josiah, told our correspondent.
As of press time, the Plateau State Police Command has not issued an official statement. However, a source at the command confirmed that security operatives had been deployed to both affected communities to assess the situation.
