The convener, Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) and Coalition for a Better and Brighter Nigeria (CBBN), Prophet Isa El-Buba, has promised to mobilize 40 million Nigerians to vote for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti.

He made the appeal in Jos during training and activation of a grassroots mobilization retreat organized for Obi/Datti support groups.

He also urged them to have faith in the emergence of a new Nigeria and vote for the Labour Party candidates who would drive the process for the good of every citizen.

The cleric asked the participants at the training to network, be united and stay focused on the goal of redeeming the nation.

“Uncircumcised political leaders are threatening our existence, they have no conscience but we are here to break their hold on the country, all we need is the help of God.

“We want to see the birth of a glorious nation… no plan can work without faith in the plan, we are seeing many mountains that look impossible to remove… It is the faith you have in a thing that makes you sacrifice your time and talent without seeking payment, we have faith in the new Nigeria and the new Nigeria has come,” he said.

He added; “If there is any other time we will need to fight and recover the soul of Nigeria, it is now, after this time it will be another four years. We can’t afford to be under the APC and PDP as recent events have seen them exposing and accusing themselves… so we are here to mobilize and ensure that Peter Obi and Datti emerge president and vice president in the 2023 elections.”

He advised the people to be prayerful, brave, honest and accountable as they work for the success of the Labour Party in the February election, stressing, “Money won’t win the 2023 elections, Nigerians are tired and are looking for a new Nigeria where prosperity thrives.”

The 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi, Chief Ifeanyi-Chukwuma Odii, has dismissed allegations by the member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Mr Chinedu Ogah, that he has been sponsoring cyberbullying campaigns against Ebonyi government.

Odii, also known as “AnyiChuks” in a statement to journalists in Abakaliki on Tuesday, described the allegation as baseless and an attempt to criminalise legitimate criticism and divert attention from issues of governance in the state.

He maintained that demanding accountability from elected public officials was a constitutional right of citizens and should not be misconstrued as cyberbullying or cyberstalking.

“Since when did asking questions become cyberbullying? Since when did demanding a scorecard become cyberstalking?” Odii asked.

He noted that Ebonyi people deserved to know how public resources allocated to the state had been utilised, insisting that citizens had the right to demand transparency and good governance.

According to him, criticism of government policies and performance is an essential feature of democracy and should not be interpreted as an attack on any individual.

The PDP governorship candidate also denied allegations that he was influencing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register underage voters, describing the accusation as reckless, defamatory and without evidence.

He urged the lawmaker to forward any evidence in his possession to the appropriate security agencies instead of making what he described as unsubstantiated allegations in the media.

The PDP candidate pledged to continue criticising the government in areas requiring improvement and commend it where it performs well.

Odii added that he would continue to advocate transparency, accountability and inclusive development, stressing that responsible opposition was vital to democratic governance.

Odii said he would not be intimidated into silence, adding that the people of the state would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogah, at a press conference recently accused Odii of sponsoring cyberbullying and propaganda against the Ebonyi government led by Governor Nwifuru

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to prosecute the party’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, over claims that he uploaded candidates’ names on the Commission’s portal.

ADC’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged INEC to take all steps towards ensuring that Bala is prosecuted.

In a statement he signed, Abdullahi maintained that Bala was promoting falsehood, hence should be prosecuted according to the law.

Bala had claimed that his faction had obtained INEC’s access code and uploaded candidates for the 2027 general election.

The claim, which has been widely shared on social media, suggested that Bala’s faction had successfully completed the upload of candidates on INEC’s nomination portal.

But INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, described the claim as untrue, insisting that Bala is not recognised by the Commission as the national chairman of the ADC.

Reacting via a statement, Abdullahi said: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) welcomes the prompt clarification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which unequivocally confirmed that the document circulated by Mr. Nafiu Bala purporting to show that he had obtained the Commission’s access code and uploaded candidates on behalf of the ADC for the 2027 general election was forged, and that the claim itself was entirely false.

“The issue before us is no longer simply about the continuous false statements that have been issued by Nafiu Bala Gombe at the behest of his sponsors. It is about the clear and unmistakable attempt to mislead the Nigerian public.

“To publicly claim that one has gained access to INEC’s restricted nomination platform and exercised powers reserved for duly recognised party officials is a grave matter that deserves the immediate attention of law enforcement agencies.

“As a responsible party, the ADC therefore calls on INEC to take all the necessary steps to ensure that Mr Nafiu Bala and anyone else involved in originating or promoting this falsehood are investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
