Plateau South Komsol Pro Lalong Group

A political debate over representation and performance in Plateau South Senatorial District has intensified following a rejoinder from the Komsol Media Team in response to a publication attributed to the group, “Lalong Vanguard for Senate Continuity 2027.”

Titled “Rejoinder: Facts, Performance, and the Burden of Public Accountability,” the statement by the media team of former House of Representatives member, Hon. Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, dismissed the earlier publication as lacking substance, accusing its authors of resorting to personal attacks rather than addressing governance and representation issues raised by Longgap.

The media team maintained that Longgap’s concerns reflect “widely shared public sentiment” across Quaan-Pan, Shendam, Mikang, and other parts of Plateau South, emphasizing that highlighting hardships, unmet expectations, and governance gaps should be seen as part of democratic accountability rather than political hostility.

The rejoinder challenged the performance record of Senator Simon Bako Lalong, citing his eight-year tenure as Governor and over two years as a serving senator. It called for a clear account of achievements that have directly improved living standards in Plateau South and linked Lalong’s political standing to the 2023 general elections, suggesting that the results reflected public dissatisfaction with his performance.

Addressing reports of an endorsement in Langtang North Local Government Area, the Komsol Media Team described it as lacking grassroots legitimacy, citing statements from the Chairman of the Taroh APC Vanguard, who reportedly said the endorsement did not represent the collective will of party stakeholders.

On community engagement, the statement stressed that residents require sustained leadership and proactive governance rather than reactive responses after crises occur. It also highlighted Longgap’s tenure in the House of Representatives, noting his constituency projects, empowerment initiatives, and direct community engagement in Shendam, Quaan-Pan, and Mikang Federal Constituency as reasons for his continued support among constituents.

The statement concluded by urging political discourse grounded in accountability, dialogue, and reflection, emphasizing that Plateau South residents deserve transparent leadership and honest engagement from public office holders.

The rejoinder was signed and authorized by the Komsol Media Team.

Following the unresolved internal wrangling within the All Progressive Congress,APC, resulting from the recently concluded primaries in Kebbi State, the Senator representing Kebbi South, Garba Musa Maidoki, has defected from the ruling party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Maidoki who chairs the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation cited unresolved internal wrangling within the APC following the just concluded primaries as the reason for his action.
Madoki was among the lawmakers screened out of the primaries.

Senator Maidoki stated that his decision followed, “wide consultations with constituents” in a letter addressed to the Senate President and read during Tuesday’s plenary.

He explained that his action was triggered by protracted problems arising from the APC primaries

The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary, urged the lawmaker to step down his defection to allow room for reconciliation as the APC in Kebbi does not have a fundamental crisis and that Maidoki’s grievances could be resolved internally.

Barau said, “I wish to intervene and plead with the distinguished senator to rescind his decision. There is no internal problem in the APC in Kebbi State. This is more of a family dispute and we can reconcile. I move that this defection be stepped down for reconciliation.”

Maidoki rejected the intervention, saying that he had already made up his mind as his exit adds to a string of defections from the APC to the ADC in recent months, with discontent over party primaries and internal disputes pushing some lawmakers toward the opposition.

The ADC has increasingly positioned itself as an alternative for politicians aggrieved by the ruling party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Maidoki’s defection is likely to deepen those divisions and significantly alter the political calculation in Kebbi South.
