JOS, Nigeria – A University of Jos (UNIJOS) student is behind bars after a shocking attack on her neighbor during exam week. Tangsan Nansokaan Paksohot, a 300-level English student, allegedly stabbed fellow student Julius Nember in the chest following a dispute over noise.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, January 11th, as students hunkered down for exams. According to reports, Paksohot was deep in study preparation when loud music from Nember’s room disrupted her focus. Incensed, she locked Nember and his friends inside their room as a makeshift noise barrier.
When the trapped students protested, tensions escalated. Upon their release, Nember and his friends confronted Paksohot about the confinement. In a fit of anger, Paksohot grabbed a kitchen knife and lunged at Nember, inflicting a chest wound.
Nember received initial treatment but lost significant blood. He currently awaits further surgery due to internal injuries. The attack sent shockwaves through the UNIJOS community, raising concerns about student safety and potential mental health pressures during exam season.
Paksohot has been arrested by police, and university officials are cooperating with authorities and providing support to Nember’s family. Student unions, notably NASELS and FASA, have also mobilized, offering financial assistance for Nember’s medical expenses.
The UNIJOS community grapples with the aftermath of this violent incident, urging students to prioritize respect and tolerance, especially during stressful periods. University officials have pledged to investigate the matter thoroughly and provide necessary support to those affected.
