The lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, has alleged that most of the violent attacks in Plateau State are being planned and executed from neighbouring states.
Gagdi made the claim on Tuesday while speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
According to him, criminals have taken advantage of forest reserves located along the state’s borders to establish safe havens for their operations.
“The report is right to say that some of these attacks are coordinated from neighbouring states,” he said. “The forest reserve around the state boundary has become a base for bandits and kidnappers. Many of them, particularly from the Zamfara axis in the Northwest, have relocated there to carry out their activities.”
He further explained that because the reserve area is restricted for farming, it has become an unchecked hideout for criminals.
“So if those criminals are in the game reserve, especially the one situated along the Taraba boundary, they plan and coordinate attacks from there on civilians,” the lawmaker added.
