The Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) has called on citizens to shun all forms of Ethno-Religious hatred in the electioneering process which may undermine the successes or modest achievements recorded over the years in restoring relative peace in Plateau State.

Mr Joseph Lengmang, Director General Plateau Peace Building Agency stated this while addressing selected media creative stakeholders at the premises of the Agency Today, Thursday 30th March as the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA) held its monthly coordinated media meeting.

He acknowledged the role of citizens and all stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful 2023 electioneering process in Plateau state while calling on the good people of the state to desist from any form of ethno-religious hatred and post-electoral violence.

“In every election there will always be one form of violent or conflict contestation and dispute over electoral outcome but generally the election was peaceful here in plateau state and we would like to commend the media on the coverage of the just-concluded elections.”

“We call on those who won to be Magnanimous and those who lost to show Grace in defeat. We need to collectively work together as it is no longer politicking but about governance. Discontented individuals and bodies should adapt institutional mechanisms to address violations and seek redress rather than inciting dispute and using ethnoreligious hatred, as it undermines the successes of the electoral process and creates unnecessary wages among citizens due to political differences.” He Said.

The Director General also disclosed that the meeting is aimed at strategizing and highlighting measures to manage the outcome of the just concluded election and measures to Mitigate conflict between herders and farmers as the wet season sets in Plateau State.

Speaking on the conflicts between Farmers and herders in the State Lengmang stated that the rainy season in Plateau usually bruce tension between both parties and measures to ensure peace needs to be put in place.

“As the wet season sets in the media has a role to play in dowsing tension between Farmers and herders in the state. So far the peace-building agency has done a lot in terms of training both parties and creating platforms for them to share ideas and express their disagreements to build consensus. It is important to consolidate this success by bringing to limelight success stories of the peace project, such as the joint building of a borehole by the Farmers and herders in Shandam as we continue to work towards improving peaceful coexistence in conflicting communities”

Lengmang also called on security, religious and other institutions to help in containing individuals trying to shortchange the efforts of the agency.

At the interaction, media creatives who were drawn from the print, electronic and new media were tasked with creating sustainable ideas for the Agency to sustain peace in post-election and among farmers and herders as the rainy season sets in.

Extending his condolence to a media colleague who lost his wife, the DG prayed the bereaved be left with lasting memories and the lost soul to rest in peace.

BY SUNDAY SAMUEL The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has directed prominent lawyer Mike Ozekhome to stop using the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.

The decision was made in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines governing the award and regulation of the SAN rank. The measure will remain in force until the committee reaches a final decision on matters currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related proceedings.

According to the LPPC, the action is intended to protect the honour, reputation and standing of the prestigious SAN designation while the issues under consideration are thoroughly examined.

As a result, Ozekhome is prohibited from portraying or identifying himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded.

The committee reaffirmed its dedication to promoting professionalism, ethical conduct and accountability within the legal profession, stressing the need to preserve public trust in the SAN institution.

Ozekhome was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2010, joining a group of 19 distinguished legal practitioners admitted to the Inner Bar that year.

Dutch Trade Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma visited Washington this week to meet with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and members of Congress to oppose the MATCH Act, a bill that would bar Chinese chipmakers from accessing Western semiconductor equipment, and one that would hit ASML especially hard.

ASML, based in the Netherlands, is Europe’s most valuable company and the only maker in the world of the sophisticated lithography machines that are used to make cutting-edge AI chips.

“It’s exceptional that I’m coming here to broadly outline our concerns to Congress,” Sjoerdsma told Bloomberg after the meetings. “The stakes for the Netherlands may be very high.”

China accounts for 19% of ASML’s net system sales. The MATCH Act would go further than existing controls, extending curbs to ASML’s deep ultraviolet immersion machines on top of the long-standing ban on its most advanced extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, tools reaching China.

As ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet told TechCrunch in May, what China can currently buy are older-generation deep ultraviolet tools — gear first shipped about a decade ago — the same machines the MATCH Act would now relegate off limits.

The bill, introduced in April, hasn’t yet faced a full House or Senate vote; Bloomberg notes it would likely need to be folded into a larger package to pass.
