In a tragic incident that has left the community of Adu village of Bassa LGA in shock, suspected militias launched a brutal attack that resulted in the loss of eight lives, including two minors. The horrifying assault took place at approximately 9 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2023, catching most residents off guard as they had retired to the safety of their homes.
Davidson Malison, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), confirmed this harrowing event in a statement issued on Monday. He described it as yet another heart-wrenching episode of violence and destruction that has plagued Plateau State.
Malison provided a chilling account of the attack, saying, “The gunmen stormed the community at about 2010hrs, positioned themselves, and unleashed a hail of bullets on the unsuspecting victims while they were asleep.” He went on to reveal that within minutes, eight innocent lives were lost, and five others sustained injuries, all of whom are currently receiving medical treatment in hospitals.
The Rigwe Nation, already reeling from the tragedy, finds itself in a state of profound sorrow. Danjuma Avu, a resident of Adu village, shared his traumatic experience, recounting how the attackers opened fire on people gathered at the mini market square. Avu tragically lost two of his own children and six other relatives during the onslaught. He described how the assailants, after attacking those outside, proceeded to enter a building where his children, who were undergoing medical treatment, and two others were shot.
The victims, consisting of five males, one female, and two minors, have been laid to rest in the village cemetery as the community grapples with the unbearable loss. Meanwhile, the injured individuals continue to receive critical medical care at local hospitals.
The incident has left the entire region deeply shaken, emphasizing the pressing need for enhanced security measures and a concerted effort to ensure the safety and well-being of the people in Plateau State.
Waymo has announced a deal with an energy storage company called B2U to use retired robotaxi batteries to serve electricity grids in California and Texas.
The deal helps answer the question of how Waymo is thinking about the end-of-life treatment of the thousands of robotaxis it has deployed around the United States. Almost all of those are currently Jaguar I-Pace EVs, though the company has recently started deploying a limited number of vans built by Chinese automaker Zeekr.
Waymo said the partnership will involve the deployment of “hundreds of megawatts of storage capacity” but did not offer any further specifics.
B2U is one of numerous companies focusing on battery repurposing rather than recycling. Redwood Materials, founded by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel and backed in part by Waymo’s parent company Alphabet, recently spun up its own second-life storage business using old EV batteries.

Sports247 reports that Purity issued the appreciation while leading out four grapplers to Mongolia for the 2026 World Wrestling 3rd Ranking Series, which he said helps Nigeria to continue spreading its presence globally.
Purity thanked Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) president, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for making the trip possible, pointing out that the top administrator covered all arrangements for the team that travelled out on Monday night.
The team comprises Genesis Mercy Miesinnei (50kg), Ogunsanya Christianah Tolulope (53kg), Kolawole Esther Omolayo (62kg) and Ojo Damola Hannah (76kg), who the NWF technical committee chairman believes will all excel.
“I want to, on behalf of the athletes and entire wrestling community, express our profound appreciation to the president of Nigeria Wrestling Federation for his unwavering support, dedication and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian wrestlers.
“His contribution continues to create opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level and showcase Nigeria’s talent on the global stage,” said Purity, who added that the team’s primary objective in Mongolia is to earn ranking points.
Sports247 gathered that picking enough ranking points will help each of the wrestlers establish their world standings and secure top seedings heading into the World Wrestling Championships.
