The Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) has issued a warning regarding the recent unprovoked attacks on citizens in Plateau State, expressing concern that these incidents could undermine the state government’s achievements in conflict prevention and peace-building efforts.

The PPBA also frowned at the recent attack on Du village, Kwall district of Irigwe chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, which led to the death of some persons while leaving some with various degrees of injuries.

Daily Post recalls that an Expression of Commitment to Peace Agreement was signed in July, 2021, between the Irigwe and Fulani people.

The Director, Administration and Officer, overseeing the Agency, Elkannah Izam stated this through the Team Lead, Strategic Communication, PPBA, Kenneth Dakop, in Jos the State Capital.

While commiserating with victims of the latest attack and the Irigwe people, Izam noted that, โ€œthere is need for sustained dialogue and mediation with critical stakeholders across the state, so as to compliment the kinetic operations of the security agencies operating in the state.

He then sued for calm and cooperation between communities and the security architecture in the state to weed out criminal elements in their midst and elsewhere.

In the same vein, the overseeing officer PPBA called on the security outfits in the state โ€œto check the growing trend of mob actions allegedly carried out by the proscribed commercial motorcycle riders within the metropolis.

โ€œReported cases of mob actions on innocent Nigerians by the commercial motorcyclists lately pose a clear and present danger to the safety of citizens and a threat to the hard-earned peace the state is currently enjoyingโ€, he maintained.

He charged community and religious leaders, youth and women groups and other well-meaning individuals and corporate entities, particularly, the Nigeria Police to rise to the current security threat and nip it in the bud.

A group, Women for Women Community, Plateau Chapter, has called for greater inclusion, fairness and equal political participation for women ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The call was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by the groupโ€™s Convener, Mrs Rhoda Jahota; Coordinator, Mrs Felicia Bala; and Secretary, Mrs Kauna Samuel.

The group said women remained critical stakeholders in peace building, economic growth, community leadership and family stability, stressing that their contributions should reflect in political leadership structures.

โ€œAs vital stakeholders in peace, growth and development, women have continued to contribute immensely to nation-building, community leadership, economic advancement and family stability.

โ€œIt is only right that these contributions are meaningfully reflected in our political leadership and decision-making structures,โ€ the statement said.

The group appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors and other stakeholders in Plateau to support competent and visionary women seeking elective offices.

It also urged political party leaders and chairmen to ensure a fair, transparent and level playing field for female aspirants during party primaries and elections.

โ€œThe inclusion of women on the ballot is not merely a political gesture,โ€ the group stated.

โ€œIt is a necessary step toward strengthening democracy, promoting good governance and building a more inclusive society,โ€ it added.

The group further urged women, mothers and youths to rise above political, ethnic and religious differences in supporting credible female candidates.

According to the statement, leadership should be driven by integrity, competence, compassion and vision rather than gender, ethnicity or political affiliation.

โ€œThe future of Plateau State is brighter when women are empowered to lead alongside men,โ€ the group stated.

โ€œA society that gives women equal opportunity in governance is positioned for sustainable peace, justice, unity and development,โ€ it added.

The group described the advocacy as a call for progress, inclusion and transformational leadership, declaring that โ€œit is Women Oโ€™Clock on the Plateau.โ€ (NAN)
