A group under the aegis of the Plateau Initiative for Growth and Development has criticised comments made by Yilchini Jan Bida against the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, accusing the APC governorship aspirant of making false and misleading claims ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group stated that it was reacting to Bida’s recent media engagement in Jos, where he outlined his ambition to contest for the governorship seat and criticised aspects of governance in Plateau State.
In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Nengak David, the group accused Bida of attempting to misrepresent the achievements of the Mutfwang administration while portraying himself as the only solution to the state’s challenges.
According to the statement, Bida’s comments on security and infrastructure revealed what the group described as a lack of understanding of the realities and aspirations of Plateau people.
“Ordinarily, such claims would not deserve a response, but it has become necessary to set the record straight for the benefit of the peace-loving and patriotic people of Plateau State,” the statement said.
The group questioned Bida’s capacity and connection with the people, noting that despite his military background, he was not known for visible contributions to peace-building or humanitarian intervention in Plateau State during or after his years of service.
It further alleged that the retired commander had rarely identified with victims of attacks across the state or visited affected communities to sympathize with grieving families.
The group also faulted Bida’s alleged comments regarding insecurity and mobile network challenges in rural communities, saying the remarks had raised concerns about his sensitivity to the plight of vulnerable citizens.
According to the statement, leadership requires compassion, sacrifice, courage, and a consistent commitment to justice and peace.
“Plateau State cannot afford to entrust its future to individuals who appear disconnected from the realities and sufferings of its people,” the group stated.
The Plateau Initiative for Growth and Development also challenged Bida’s promises on youth empowerment and job creation, claiming there was no visible record of him facilitating employment opportunities or empowerment programmes for youths in the state.
“There is no known record of him using his influence, experience or connections to secure opportunities for Plateau youths,” the statement added.
The group maintained that leadership should be judged by proven impact and service rather than campaign promises and media appearances.
It concluded by insisting that Plateau State deserves visionary, compassionate, and people-oriented leadership committed to peace, development, and the welfare of citizens.
Arsenal star, Bukayo Saka has parried worries over his injury status and insists he is ready to play for England at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, where he sat out his team’s opening match on Wednesday, Sports247 reports.
England dumped Croatia 4-2 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas in their Group L opener, but Saka was not part of The Three Lions’ squad that got deserved revenge for their loss to the same country in the Russia 2018 semi-finals.
The Gunners’ winger was always a major worry ahead of Wednesday’s game, as he is still recovering from a nagging achilles injury that he picked up earlier this season with his club.
However, Saka said he is feeling better and ready to play the next game, as he is eager to defy all odds, but admitted that it all depends on The Lions’ coach, Thomas Tuchel, who decides the squad’s line-up.
“I don’t want to say anything that goes against the manager. But what I would say between Mikel (Arteta) and Arsenal, since March, they have managed me amazingly and helped me get back on the pitch.
“I am feeling better than I have felt for the last few months. I am ready to go. As players it’s the biggest gamble, especially if you’re not feeling your sharpest. You have the choice whether you don’t play or you put yourself out there knowing people are going to judge you.
“I’m happy to take the gamble. It (often pays) off, I’d say. I’m going to continue doing that. But I am feeling a lot better than I did in March and I’m ready to go,” Saka submitted philosophically.
Sports247 reports further that it’s now left to be seen if Tuchel will consider Saka fit enough to start against Ghana next week in England’s second game of the ongoing Mundial in USA, Canada and Mexico.
