Member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of securing re-election in 2027, citing an impressive legislative record and sustained grassroots engagement across his constituency.
Gagdi, who represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency of Plateau State, said his optimism is anchored on years of consistent service, visible development projects, and a deep connection with the people. According to him, effective representation goes beyond lawmaking and must translate into measurable impact on the lives of constituents.
The lawmaker pointed to several initiatives under his tenure, including infrastructure projects, youth empowerment schemes, and educational support programs designed to uplift communities within the constituency. He also emphasized his commitment to transparency, noting that he maintains regular communication with constituents through town hall meetings and project briefings.
Gagdi further highlighted his role in advocating for federal interventions, particularly in communities affected by insecurity and economic challenges. He stressed that his legislative efforts at the National Assembly are closely aligned with the needs and priorities of his constituents.
Political observers believe his growing popularity is evident in the increasing support from community leaders, youth groups, and traditional institutions, many of whom have reportedly endorsed his potential bid for another term. His recent constituency engagements have drawn large crowds, signaling a solid political base ahead of the next election cycle.
First elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, Gagdi has built a reputation as an active and accessible lawmaker. As preparations gradually begin for 2027, his confidence and track record are expected to shape the political landscape in PKK, where performance and grassroots influence will likely determine the outcome.
A political support group, Progressive Minds of Zabot Ward in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, has endorsed Hon. Pharm. Chun Ezekiel John (CJ) for the Barkin Ladi–Riyom Federal Constituency seat ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The group, operating under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also pledged to purchase the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the aspirant, citing his competence and leadership capacity as reasons for their support.
Speaking on behalf of the group, leader of the delegation, Hon. Elder Dung Stephen Gwong, said the endorsement followed a careful assessment of all aspirants, adding that Chun Ezekiel John emerged as the most suitable candidate to represent the constituency.
Gwong explained that the group, comprising over 2,000 APC members including men, women, and youths, was impressed by the aspirant’s vision and preparedness, particularly during a recent stakeholders’ engagement in Zabot where he outlined plans for inclusive and people-centered representation.
He emphasized that the decision was driven by the need for quality leadership, noting that Chun John possesses the experience, grassroots connection, and capacity required to effectively represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
“As a demonstration of our commitment, we will purchase the APC nomination and expression of interest forms for him and urge him to contest. We assure him of our full support,” Gwong stated.
Also speaking, Hon. Ayuba Hwere, a former Majority Leader of the Barkin Ladi Legislative Council, described Chun Ezekiel John as a grassroots-oriented leader who has remained accessible and supportive to the people, especially during periods of insecurity.
On behalf of the women, the Ward Woman Leader, Mary Gyang, called for unity among members in support of the aspirant’s ambition, urging him to prioritize empowerment and security if elected.
Similarly, youth representative, Comrade Hwere David Ayuba, commended Chun Ezekiel John for his consistent efforts in empowering young people, noting that his leadership qualities have been evident even without holding elective office.
Responding, Hon. Pharm. Chun Ezekiel John expressed appreciation to the people of Zabot Ward for the endorsement, describing their decision to purchase his nomination forms as a rare demonstration of trust and confidence.
He said the gesture reflects the people’s belief in his vision and commitment to service, assuring them that he would not take their support for granted.
“I am deeply humbled by this show of support. It is a strong indication that the people desire a new direction, and I am ready to serve with dedication and purpose,” he said.
The aspirant added that the growing wave of endorsements across wards signals increasing momentum for his ambition, pledging to deliver effective representation if elected.
Recent remarks by Bola Tinubu suggesting that Nigerians are faring better than citizens of some other African countries have drawn a sharp response from William Ruto, igniting widespread reactions online.
Tinubu made the comments during a visit to Bayelsa State, where he commissioned key infrastructure projects and defended his administration’s economic policies amid rising concerns over the cost of living and fuel prices.
Addressing residents, the Nigerian president stressed the need for honesty in governance, acknowledging economic hardships while urging citizens to remain appreciative.
“Being truthful with our people is important. Yes, I hear concerns from different economic angles. The cost of fuel is high, but let us look around and thank God for improved conditions. Consider what is happening in countries like Kenya and others,” he said.
In a response captured in a viral video, Ruto dismissed the comparison, pointing instead to Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges, particularly in the energy sector. He also made remarks about language proficiency that drew mixed reactions.
“We have a strong education system. We speak English well—arguably the best. If you hear someone from Nigeria speak, you might need a translator,” Ruto said, comments that sparked both amusement and criticism across social media platforms.
The exchange comes against the backdrop of broader economic pressures across Africa, including rising fuel costs linked to global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions around key oil routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Online reactions have been swift and divided, with many users criticizing the tone of the exchange and urging leaders to focus more on addressing domestic economic challenges rather than making cross-country comparisons.
