Amid swirling controversy, conflicting result announcements, and heated debates across social media, the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) House of Representatives primaries, Barrister Nandom Andrew Kura, has broken his silence — insisting that the election was validly conducted across all 36 wards.

Speaking during a media question-and-answer session shortly after submitting his report at the party secretariat, Kura firmly dismissed claims that no election took place due to the alleged late arrival of materials.

According to him, the allegations exist only in the imagination of those spreading them.

“Anybody that is so alleged is only a figment of his or her imagination,” he said confidently.

The returning officer explained that elections were successfully conducted in all wards across Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Local Government Areas, adding that there is clear evidence to support the process.

“There was election in all the 36 wards of Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam Local Government Areas. We have videos of counting going on at the venues on the very day. So if anybody claimed there was no election, I have 36 proofs that elections actually held in all the wards,” he stated.

The clarification comes after confusion trailed the exercise, with different individuals reportedly announcing separate results — a development that sparked tension among party supporters and triggered widespread reactions online.

But Barrister Kura maintained that there was only one legally recognised authority assigned to announce the official results of the primaries.

Providing the official outcome, he declared that the incumbent lawmaker representing PKK Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, emerged victorious with a landslide performance.

“The outcome of the election is that Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi scored 29,207 votes out of a total of 31,150 votes cast,” he announced.

On the issue of parallel declarations made by other individuals, the returning officer did not mince words. He described anyone who announced results outside his authority as an impostor.

“There can be no other authorities. I am here at the party secretariat to submit the report of the assignment I was given. If there is any other person doing the job, let him come and present his own report,” he said.

He added that the absence of any competing report submission at the secretariat further validated his position as the only authorised returning officer for the exercise.

Taking the matter further, the legal practitioner warned that impersonation and unauthorised result announcements could attract legal consequences.

“Anybody that announced results for PKK other than my humble self is an imposter. He impersonated me, and I have every right to sue the person,” Kura declared.

He lamented that the confusion generated by the false announcements damaged his reputation and fueled negative reactions across social media platforms.

“Because of their actions, I saw a lot of comments on social media that I hate. I saw reactions by members of the public that actually tarnished my image. With my calling, I cannot and I will never impersonate,” he added.

The dramatic clarification now appears to put to rest the uncertainty surrounding the APC PKK House of Representatives primaries, while reaffirming Yusuf Adamu Gagdi’s commanding victory at the polls.

Former Plateau State Governor and elder statesman, Senator Jonah David Jang, has voiced strong opposition to proposals that would allow Hausa/Fulani residents in Plateau State to obtain indigene certificates, describing the issue as one with far-reaching implications for the state’s cultural heritage, identity, and indigenous rights. Jang made his position known while addressing ongoing debates surrounding citizenship, residency, and indigeneity, topics that have remained at the center of political and social discussions in Plateau State for decades.

According to the former governor, indigene certificates are historically linked to communities and ethnic groups recognized as the original inhabitants of Plateau State and should not be granted solely on the basis of long-term residence. He argued that while every Nigerian has the constitutional right to live and conduct lawful activities anywhere in the country, such rights should not automatically translate into indigene status, which he said carries unique cultural and historical significance.

Jang further maintained that preserving the distinction between residents and indigenes is necessary to protect the interests, heritage, and political representation of indigenous communities. He warned that altering the existing framework could create tensions and undermine the rights of groups that have historically been recognized as native to the state. The former governor emphasized the need for careful consideration of any policy changes relating to indigene certificates to avoid unintended consequences.

The comments have since generated mixed reactions among stakeholders across the state and beyond. While supporters of Jang’s position argue that protecting indigenous identity is essential for maintaining social and cultural balance, others contend that individuals who have lived in Plateau for generations should be afforded broader recognition and inclusion. The debate continues to spark conversations on the broader issues of citizenship, belonging, and equal opportunities within Nigeria’s diverse society.
