Tension has heightened in Plateau State following the gruesome killing of a farmer, Ishaku Abalis, who was beheaded in Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area.
National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, lamenting that it occurred amid what he described as “incessant attacks and kidnappings” in Panyam and Pushit districts.
“Abalis’ head was cut off and taken away by the killers. The local security outfits are aware. The Sector Commander in Mangu Council mobilised his men to the site and is aware of the sporadic attacks on our people. The Divisional Police Officer of Mangu is also aware of the incident,” Dabit said.
He renewed calls for the creation of state police, stressing that local policing would complement federal security agencies, stem the wave of killings, and better protect vulnerable communities.
Dabit further urged the deployment of more security personnel to flashpoint areas, insisting that visible patrols could deter attackers, restore public confidence, and safeguard residents.
He appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down and prosecuting those behind the “heinous” crimes.
As of press time, spokespersons for Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Zhakom, and the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, had yet to respond to inquiries on the incident.
