Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Niko Omilana Shine at 2026 MOBO Awards

Nigerian music stars Wizkid and Ayra Starr, alongside British-Nigerian media personality Niko Omilana, were among the top winners at the 2026 MOBO Awards held in Manchester.

Wizkid clinched the Best African Music Act award, beating fellow Nigerian artistes including Davido, Rema, Shallipopi, Tiwa Savage, and Adekunle Gold.

Ayra Starr secured the Best International Act award, edging out global stars such as Cardi B, Gunna, and Kehlani.

In the media category, Niko Omilana emerged winner of Best Media Personality, ahead of nominees including Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as Bus Aunty, and DJ Remi Burgz.

The 2026 edition of the MOBO Awards—held in Manchester for the first time—celebrated Black music and culture, recognising talents from across the globe.

Other celebrities of Nigerian descent also featured among nominees, including German-Nigerian singer Odeal, who was nominated for Best Male Act and Best R&B/Soul Act. British actors Wunmi Mosaku, Damson Idris, Dayo Koleosho, and Cynthia Erivo were also nominated in the Best Performance in a TV Show/Film category.

Nigerian singer Omah Lay appears to have returned to Christianity after previously exploring Islam.

A few years ago, the Rivers-born artiste had hinted at converting to Islam. However, in a recent Snapchat post, he suggested he is now reconnecting with his birth religion.

“Back to the Bible. I enjoyed reading the Quran but I relate more to this,” Omah Lay wrote, indicating a renewed focus on Christianity and a preference for the Bible over the Quran.

Broda Shaggi Breaks Silence After Surviving Gun Incident

Nigerian skit maker Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has broken his silence following a narrow escape from a life-threatening gun-related incident.

The comedian was reportedly hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot injury in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State. While initial details surrounding the incident remained unclear, a police source disclosed that the injury occurred during the filming of a comedy skit.

According to the source, Shaggi was shooting under the Sango-Ota bridge when the incident happened. He was immediately rushed to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where he received prompt medical attention.

The source added that his crew members acted swiftly to get him to the hospital, where medical personnel administered first aid upon arrival.

Amid growing concern over his condition, Broda Shaggi later took to his Instagram story to share a cryptic message, suggesting he was holding back his thoughts.

In the post, he hinted at a desire to speak out but expressed fear that his words might be taken down, leaving fans speculating about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
