‎The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have intensified multi-theatre operations across the country, recording strategic gains in counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, counter-kidnapping and anti-oil theft campaigns.‎

‎Operational data released by the Defence Headquarters for the period March 20 to 26 indicates a coordinated nationwide effort that led to the neutralisation of terrorists, arrest of suspects, rescue of kidnapped victims and recovery of arms, explosives and illicit petroleum products.

‎The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, stated that the operations were driven by intelligence fusion, joint force coordination and sustained offensive posture.

‎According to him, “the Armed Forces maintained operational dominance, disrupting adversarial networks and degrading their capabilities across all theatres.”

‎In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai focused on dismantling terrorist logistics and intelligence networks, leading to multiple arrests of informants and suppliers.

‎Recovered assets included assault rifles, ammunition and logistics materials, underscoring ongoing efforts to weaken insurgent supply chains.

‎In the North-West, operations under Operation Fansan Yamma combined ground assaults with air support to target terrorist enclaves, resulting in neutralisation of fighters and destruction of infrastructure.

‎The rescue of a kidnapped local government official in Kano highlighted the operational reach of security forces.

‎The North-Central theatre witnessed intensified counter-kidnapping and counter-terrorism operations, with multiple rescue missions executed in Plateau and Kogi States.

‎Security forces also disrupted planned attacks through the interception of explosive materials and neutralisation of improvised explosive devices in Niger State.

‎Onoja noted that “these proactive operations prevented potential large-scale incidents and enhanced public safety.”

‎Further gains included the arrest of illegal miners, including foreign nationals, pointing to the intersection between resource exploitation and insecurity.

‎Under Operation Whirl Stroke, troops engaged armed groups in Benue and adjoining states, neutralising combatants and dismantling criminal networks involved in violent attacks and cattle rustling.

‎In the South-South, the military sustained pressure on the illicit oil economy, dismantling refining sites and recovering significant volumes of stolen crude and refined products.

‎Data from the operations indicate the recovery of thousands of litres of petroleum products and destruction of multiple illegal refining installations.

‎In the South-East, Operation Udo Ka targeted IPOB/ESN networks, with troops conducting clearance operations, destroying illegal refining infrastructure and neutralising explosive threats.

‎The safe detonation of improvised explosive devices underscored ongoing efforts to secure critical routes and населated areas.

‎The Defence Headquarters emphasised that the cumulative outcomes reflect enhanced inter-agency synergy and sustained operational effectiveness.

‎“The Armed Forces will continue to sustain offensive operations until all threats to national security are neutralised,” Onoja stated.

‎He also conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to troops and stakeholders, reaffirming the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability nationwide.

‘Makinde will defeat Tinubu in 2027’ – APM

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has expressed confidence that its 2027 presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.

The party made the claim in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, while reacting to recent remarks by Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, who reportedly described Makinde as inconsequential.

According to the APM, the Presidency’s comments reflected growing concern over Makinde’s rising political profile ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Yusuf said the 2027 election would ultimately determine who was truly inconsequential in the race.

“Rather than defend its record in office, the Presidency has chosen to attack personalities. The decision to deploy presidential aides to criticise Governor Makinde only shows a lack of confidence in its own achievements,” the party said.

Referring to Bwala’s interview with Al Jazeera earlier this year, the party said Nigerians were familiar with what it described as the communication style of the current administration.

“Daniel Bwala would soon eat his own words against Governor Makinde,” the statement added.

The party maintained that the 2027 presidential election would be a direct contest between Makinde and Tinubu, expressing confidence that the Oyo State governor would emerge victorious.

“President Tinubu should be jittery because Governor Makinde is coming into the contest with an intimidating record of performance, including transforming Oyo State into one of the country’s leading economies, a feat Nigerians want replicated at the national level,” Yusuf said.

N12.8tn Service-Wide Vote: APC’s reaction exposes guilty conscience — Atiku camp

The Media Office of African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of failing to explain the reported N12.8 trillion Service-Wide Vote, SWV, contained in the 2026 Appropriation Act, describing the ruling party’s reaction as evidence of a “guilty conscience”.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Atiku’s Strategic Media Associate, Olusola Sanni.

The statement was in response to comments by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who defended the Service-Wide Vote and dismissed Atiku’s criticism.

According to Atiku Media Office, the APC ignored what it described as legitimate concerns about the sharp increase in the Service-Wide Vote and instead resorted to personal attacks.

The Atiku Media Office questioned the justification for increasing the Service-Wide Vote from N638.34 billion in the 2024 budget to more than N12.8 trillion in the 2026 Appropriation Act, representing what it described as an increase of about 1,918 per cent within two years.

“It is remarkable that in his lengthy treatise, Mr. Morka failed to answer the central question: What emergency or unforeseen expenditure justifies increasing the Service-Wide Vote from ₦638.34 billion in 2024 to over ₦12.8 trillion in 2026?” the statement said.

While acknowledging that the Service-Wide Vote is a recognised budgetary provision, the Atiku camp argued that Nigerians are demanding explanations for what it described as the size, transparency and management of the allocation.

It maintained that if the allocation was justified, the Federal Government should explain why the provision had risen to an amount it claimed rivals the combined budgets of key sectors such as defence, education, healthcare and works.

The statement further alleged that several items captured under the allocation were either vaguely described or lacked sufficient details, raising concerns over accountability.

“Even more disturbing is the fact that substantial portions of this allocation are tied to projects that are either vaguely described or not described at all. A contingency fund without specificity, accountability or transparency ceases to be a contingency provision and becomes precisely what Nigerians fear — a slush fund waiting to be abused,” the statement added.

The media office also accused the APC of avoiding what it described as fundamental questions by resorting to insults instead of addressing the issues raised.

It further claimed that the Tinubu administration had previously faced public scrutiny over alleged duplicated budget provisions, religious project allocations and other controversial appropriations, arguing that concerns over the Service-Wide Vote were therefore justified.

The Atiku camp consequently called on the Federal Government to publish a detailed breakdown of the N12.8 trillion Service-Wide Vote, including the projects, beneficiaries, implementing agencies and legal basis for each expenditure.

The Atiku Media Office maintained that full disclosure of the allocation remained necessary to assure Nigerians that public funds were being properly managed.
