Plateau Watch Media Group has officially launched a new online platform, PlateauChroniclez.com with the sole aim of changing the negative narratives and unpleasant stories that seem to be celebrated by the Nigerian media on a daily basis.

Speaking at the virtual launch of the new platform on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, the CEO of Plateau Watch Media Group and Publisher of PlateauNewsWatch.com, Mr. Isaac Dachen, said the birth of PlateauChroniclez.com is not only well timed but a child of necessity and the Group’s contribution to telling the beautiful story of Plateau State beyond what the outside world is made to read and hear every day.

“The birth of PlateauChroniclez.com is not an accident but a deliberate effort by our team to help in changing the negative narratives and stories that the Nigerian media paint of the state every other day,” Dachen said.

“It is disheartening that all we get to read daily is the violence, attacks, killings and destruction of properties in Plateau State. Like almost every state especially in the northern region, Plateau State has had its share if these crises but beyond all these, the Nigerian media has conveniently forgotten the resilience of the people. We have shelved the beauty of Plateau State to the background. We have forgotten that Plateau still remain the Home of Tourism in the country.

“The State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality is doing everything possible including commiting huge sums to revitalize the sector and take the state back to its enviable position as the tourist center of Nigeria.

“And this is where Plateau Chroniclez comes in as a platform that will bring to light the beauty of Plateau State, showcasing our enchanting tourism sites, unique cultural heritage and potentials of our beautiful Plateau.

“With PlateauChroniclez.com, we document the everyday lives of ordinary people of the state, highlighting their diverse experiences and narratives of people in and around the state.

“We aim to connect iconic photos of interesting scenarios around the state, unheard of places and monuments, traditional institutions, tourist sites, etc, which will also come in great focus as a way of promoting Plateau State and its rich cultural heritage.

“The platform will also serve as a photoblog, while its associated platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X will host the videos/podcasts, and interviews of the individuals

“PlateauChroniclez.com will focus on telling stories of ordinary Plateau people, aiming to connect strangers and share their emotional experiences as well as inspiring the people and creating a sense of community by showcasing the resilience, courage, and unique perspectives of individuals.

“The stories to be presented will feature and cover a wide range of topics, including unity, love, relationships, loss, faith, hope, resilience, unity, togetherness, and personal journeys of individuals.

“The platform will also aim at fostering a strong community of followers who will engage with the stories and share their own experiences while focusing on building genuine connections with strangers, often using body language and energy to convey a sense of safety and openness.

“Plateau Chroniclez will operate as a storytelling platform with photos and interviews with individuals on the streets of Plateau across all the local government areas.

“Our contents will feature candid portraits paired with deeply personal, often poignant, stories from diverse individuals, devoid of politics and religious leanings spread across various categories like Tourism, Art, Culture, Food, Drinks, Dances, Cultural Heritage, Street Chroniclez, Voices, Sights and Sounds of Plateau, Tradition and Music.

“In all of these, we aim to work together with the State Government, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, and other relevant bodies and agencies involved in the promotion of the tourism and cultural potentials of the state in projecting the image of Plateau State and let the world see us in a different prism away from that of a state in a perpetual throe of anarchy.”

Forces working to stop my 2027 presidential ambition will fail – Peter Obi

Former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has said that forces from the Federal Government were working to stop him from being on the ballot in 2027.

Obi, who was a guest speaker at a leadership programme hosted by a group, NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative on Friday at Madonna University Okija, Anambra State, also challenged all those aspiring to be President of Nigeria, including President Bola Tinubu to a debate, insisting that he is the most qualified of all of them.

Obi also reacted to the judgment of a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which set aside its earlier ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register the NDC as a political party.

Speaking to students, Obi said: “If you know what they are doing to ensure that I’m not on the ballot in 2027, you will be surprised. Nigerian government is doing everything to ensure that I do not contest in this election, but I’m not looking at the obstacles but at the destination.

“I’m rather focussed at the fruitfulness of the destination and that is what keeps me going.

“I’m not desperate to be Nigerian President but desperate to see Nigeria work. Go and obtain your PVC. If you don’t vote, you are hurting your future. When you have your PVC, do not vote for me because I’m an Igbo man. I’m not contesting election because I’m an igbo man, but vote for me because I’m the most qualified.

“I challenge any of those contesting to a debate to say what they want to do for this country, including President Bola Tinubu. I’m not saying it to make you happy but to change Nigeria and make it work.

“It is not about Igbo people but I want a Nigeria where the child of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. We want a country that will work. The greatest beneficiaries of my presidency will be the north.

“I will fight to make Nigeria better and end the criminality in Nigeria. There is insecurity in the entire country and everyone is involved, so I want to build a country that works.”

Obi insisted that Nigeria’s problem was lack of commitment by leaders, saying that some forces who he described as reactionary forces were bent on holding the country down.

Speaking on the deregistration of the NDC, Obi said, “They can not stop me. They will fail. Let me assure you it is not the end of the road. We are committed to this democracy and those who want to kill this democracy are trying to hurt the society.

“The reactionary elements in Nigeria, those who are bent on holding Nigeria down do not want it to work but I can assure you it would work. I have confidence that I will pull through because the will of the people must prevail.

“No where is safe in Nigeria today, yet the people who should help salvage the country are bent on hurting our democracy. My message to all those who mean well for Nigeria and not just my supporters is for us to remain peaceful and continue to resist this tragedy being imposed on Nigeria.”

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council, has condemned the rising wave of political violence ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The union also warned that the trend poses a serious threat to peace, public safety and the democratic process.

The Council expressed concern over increasing reports of killings, intimidation and destruction of property linked to political activities, saying the situation could undermine the credibility of the election if urgent steps were not taken to curb the violence.

In a statement jointly signed by the Osun NUJ Chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, and the Secretary, Olalekan Akindoju, the union cited a report by the Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, which recorded 44 election-related violent incidents across the state between October 2025 and June 2026.

According to the statement, the incidents reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 people, a development the Council described as alarming and requiring immediate intervention by all stakeholders.

“The figures should serve as a wake-up call to all stakeholders. No political ambition is worth the loss of human lives,” the statement said.

The Council called on security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further violence by protecting lives and property, maintaining professionalism and impartiality, and ensuring that those responsible for violent acts were brought to justice regardless of their political affiliations.

It also urged political parties, governorship candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns centred on issues affecting the people, rather than engaging in actions capable of fuelling unrest.

“The NUJ cautions political leaders against making inflammatory statements that could incite violence. They have a responsibility to restrain their supporters and place the interests of Osun State above partisan considerations.

“The Council appeals to residents, particularly young people, not to allow themselves to be used as agents of political violence or intimidation during the electioneering period,” the statement added.

It emphasised that the lives and future of the state’s youth should not be sacrificed for political interests, urging them to reject any attempt to lure them into unlawful activities.

The NUJ reaffirmed the commitment of journalists in Osun State to promoting responsible journalism, factual reporting and public enlightenment throughout the governorship election campaign.

It also called on media practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession by avoiding sensational reports capable of escalating political tension, while encouraging balanced and accurate coverage of political activities across the state.
