Plateau State Trains LG Chairmen, Executives to Align with Development Framework

The Plateau State Government has commenced a comprehensive training program for local government chairmen and their executive teams, aimed at aligning grassroots governance with the Plateau State Development Framework (PSDF 2023–2027).

The training, themed “That Plateau May Shine,” is being held in collaboration with the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership and marks a significant step toward transforming public service delivery at the local level.

Speaking at the event, Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the initiative as a critical milestone in the state’s governance reform agenda.

“This retreat represents a turning point in our governance journey,” the governor said. “We are committed to building institutions that deliver real value to the people, starting from our local governments. This is only the beginning. With the right partnerships, we are confident that Plateau State will become a national model for subnational transformation.”

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ephraim Usman Gar, emphasized the importance of equipping the grassroots workforce with the skills needed to achieve tangible development results.

“The time is now to build a productive, peaceful, and prosperous Plateau State,” Gar said. “This is an opportunity for local officials to learn and deliver meaningful outcomes in public service.”

Participants will engage in sessions on strategic planning, financial performance, intergovernmental collaboration, and innovative revenue generation, all designed to provide them with the tools and frameworks necessary for sustainable development.

Chancellor of the Athena Centre, Osita Chidoka, highlighted the importance of visionary and evidence-based governance.

“This partnership with Plateau State reflects our commitment to supporting subnational governments that are ready to lead with clarity and purpose,” Chidoka said. “We are building a new culture of local governance—one anchored on accountability, data, and delivery.”

The training is expected to enhance the capacity of local government leaders to effectively implement the PSDF and contribute meaningfully to the state’s broader development goals.
