The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Prof. Noel Wannang, has said cultural revival and community heritage initiatives can play a crucial role in restoring peace and unity in Plateau State.

Wannang made the remark on Thursday in Jos while addressing journalists ahead of the Ngas Annual Festival of Arts and Culture, also known as Puusdung 2026, where he serves as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee.

Describing the festival as a symbol of identity and continuity, the Vice Chancellor said Puusdung represents more than a celebration.

“Puusdung is a sacred platform where tradition meets modernity, where elders pass down values to the younger generation, and where we proudly showcase the richness of Ngas heritage to the world,” he said.

The festival, now in its 38th year, is aimed at preserving Ngas culture, engaging young people, fostering unity and promoting the state’s tourism potential.

Wannang noted that the university would actively participate in the festival as part of its community service mandate, with students expected to feature prominently in the Unity Dance — a highlight event involving performers from all 17 local government areas.

He stressed that cultural festivals represent the totality of a people’s values and traditions, adding that this year’s three-day programme will include experts in history, arts and poetry to showcase aspects of Ngas life such as marriage customs and heritage practices.

“What we need now in Plateau is unity and peace,” he said, urging stakeholders, corporate bodies and government institutions to support the festival.

The event, themed “Ngas: Identity, Legacy and Continuity,” is scheduled for April and is expected to draw attention to the cultural and tourism potential of the state.

Also speaking, the Plateau State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, assured organisers of the media’s support, expressing optimism that the festival would promote unity, pride and broader national interest in Plateau’s cultural heritage.

Google is rolling out new features that are designed to help with planning summer travel. The tech giant announced on Friday that its agentic AI within AI Mode can now help check whether what you need is in stock at a nearby store, and that you can now also track prices for individual hotels directly in Search.

With its latest AI Mode update, Google can now contact local stores on your behalf to find out what shop carries the specific item you’re looking for. This feature launched directly on Search last November, and is now rolling out on AI Mode in the coming weeks in the United States.

You can describe what you need, like “I forgot to pack my prescription sunglasses, so I’m trying to find a pair of clip-on polarized ones that fit over my current glasses. Where can I get some nearby?” Google will then make the calls and send you the details afterwards.

Although you can already track hotel prices at the city level, the new update lets you do so for a specific hotel that you’re interested in. On desktop, you can do this by looking up a hotel by name and then tapping the new price tracking toggle. On mobile, you’ll find the option under the “Prices” tab after you search. Once you set this up, you will receive an email alert if the price changes during your chosen dates.

As part of its announcement, Google shared that the top trending international and domestic destinations on Google Flights for summer 2026 include St. Maarten, Stockholm, Kansas City, Missouri, and Sarasota, Florida.

It also shared search interest in “AI travel assistant” and “AI concierge” has surged by 350% over the past year. Additionally, “how to use AI to find flight deals” emerged as a trending “flight deals” query in the past month, and interest in “AI flight booking” has jumped by 315%.

After security operatives reportedly fired gunshots during an arrest operation in the area, fear gripped residents of Maraban Foron in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday evening.

The incident, which occurred at about 7 pm, threw the community into confusion as residents fled for safety.
The sound of gunfire triggered panic across the area, with many people running in different directions.

A source told DAILY POST the operation allegedly involved a joint team of security operatives, including personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which caused widespread panic.

According to him, “A few residents sustained injuries while trying to escape the scene. The situation was worsened by the fact that the incident coincided with the community’s market day, forcing traders to hurriedly shut their shops, while others abandoned their goods and fled.”

The development, he said, rekindled memories of the recent violence in Angwan Rukuba, heightening fears of a possible fresh attack.

He added that the moment they heard gunshots, people started running; everyone was afraid because of what had happened recently in other parts of the state.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tenglong, also confirmed the incident, saying that it caused panic in the community and left a few persons injured.

He explained that he could not ascertain the exact reason for the operation, and the identity of the person arrested could not be confirmed.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
