Lalong commissions projects

After a series of engagements in Abuja which include presiding over the election of his successor at the Northern Governors Forum as well as the official launch of his book “40 Days 40 Nights”, Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has resumed the commissioning of projects executed by his administration in the State.

Having done some commissions in the Northern Zone last week, the Governor on Wednesday 24th May 2023 commenced the commissioning of projects in the Southern Zone at Mabudi Langtang South Local Government Area.

He commissioned the Mabudi General Hospital which he inherited as an abandoned project at the foundation level but decided to compete it in line with his policy of continuity.

He described the project as a very significant milestone in health delivery in the State saying that quality and affordable secondary healthcare services will now be available for the people.

He also commissioned the Ajikamai internal road networks comprising 9 completed roads.

He also inspected the bridge linking Ajikamai in Shendam and Gangnum in Langtang South which is still under construction. Four other roads within the Ajikamai area were also inspected.

The Governor also commissioned the Model Primary school Yelwa which is one of the Lalong Legacy Projects.

“These commissions clearly show that our administration has done a lot in the last 8 years in a bid to fulfill its social contract with the people. We believe in spreading our projects and not concentrating in one area because no part of the State is more important than another. Many can testify that politics has not also influenced our citing of projects because even places where our party did not get votes have projects” he said.

The Governor had earlier performed the coronation and presentation of staff of office to His Royal Highnesses Ponzhi Byan, Chief Clappertun Durven who is now Upgraded to 2nd Class.

He said “The installation and presentation of staff of the office to the Ponzhi Byan today is a good omen to the people of Langtang South as we bring more development to the people. Earlier on, we commissioned the General Hospital Mabudi which is one of the abandoned projects we took over at the foundation level”.

More projects are expected to be commissioned in the Southern Zone before the Governor moves to other zones.

A fresh crisis has emerged in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State as two rival factions have announced different governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 election.

The faction led by Tanimu Turaki has presented Mohammed Yayari as its governorship candidate. Yayari received his Certificate of Return during a ceremony on Wednesday alongside other candidates from different states.

At the event, party leaders stressed the need for loyalty among candidates and warned against leaving the party after securing nominations.

PDP chieftain Ibrahim Turaki said, “Nobody will take our mandate to another political party and get away with it,” adding that future candidates would sign agreements before their names are submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party’s National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan, said, “We are ready to go into the elections prepared with our candidates.”

Meanwhile, another PDP faction held a separate National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, was officially presented as the party’s governorship candidate for Gombe State.

The rival group, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, also presented Certificates of Return to candidates it said had been recognised and published by INEC.

Pantami’s emergence has deepened the leadership dispute within the PDP in Gombe, with both factions now backing different candidates for the same governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
