Pankshin, Plateau State – April 26, 2025
The vibrant spirit of the Ngas Nation came alive on Saturday as thousands gathered at the Pankshin Mini Stadium to celebrate Puusdung 2025, the annual cultural festival showcasing the rich heritage of the Ngas people in Plateau State.
The festival, a major highlight in the cultural calendar of the Ngas Nation, drew an impressive crowd comprising sons and daughters of Ngas land, government officials, members of the National and State Assemblies, and lovers of culture from across Nigeria and beyond. Attendees witnessed a rich display of tradition, music, dance, and cultural pride.
Addressing the gathering, Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, urged the people to continue fostering peace and unity, emphasizing that only through peaceful coexistence could sustainable development be achieved. Governor Mutfwang, speaking to a mammoth crowd, reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting brotherhood and unity among all ethnic groups in Plateau State.
“I am here out of respect for the Ngolong Ngas and the entire Ngas Nation. I commend you for reviving this remarkable cultural festival,” the Governor said. “As a government, we are determined to promote our cultural heritage as part of our tourism and development agenda. However, I appeal that cultural celebrations be kept free from partisan politics.”
The Governor called on Plateau people to set aside their differences and work together to achieve collective prosperity, stressing that unity was essential to overcoming the challenges facing the state.
Also speaking at the event, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, underscored the importance of culture as a tool for addressing security, economic, and developmental challenges. He lamented the erosion of traditional values such as honesty, love, tolerance, and justice, which he said has contributed to societal dysfunction.
Senator Lalong praised the Ngas Nation for sustaining Puusdung over the years, describing it as an avenue for cultural reflection and unity. He charged the Ngas people to continue using their influence to promote peace and prosperity wherever they find themselves.
In his remarks, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, expressed gratitude to the Ngas Nation for their unwavering support, regardless of political or religious differences. He emphasized that unity and cooperation are crucial for community development.
The President of the Ngas Development Association also commended the turnout, noting that the success of Puusdung 2025 reflects the people’s resilience and willingness to partner with the government for the growth and advancement of the Ngas land.
Adding to the festive spirit, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents. He announced a donation of ₦15 million to support the festival and reiterated his promise to provide clean, drinkable water to every household in the constituency.
“Our strength lies in unity,” Hon. Gagdi said. “Together, guided by integrity and a shared love for our culture, we will build a brighter future for all.”
Puusdung 2025 served not only as a celebration of Ngas heritage but also as a reminder of the unifying power of culture in fostering peace, development, and resilience among Plateau’s diverse communities.
