Political Lizard Book Launch Hon. Isaac Kwallu

A new political biography, “Kwallu: Duels with Political Lizard,” authored by journalist and writer Cyprian Dayop Jan, was on Thursday officially launched in Jos at a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries, political leaders, scholars, and supporters from across Plateau State.

The book chronicles the political rise, struggles, and achievements of Hon. Isaac Kwallu and was widely commended as a significant addition to Plateau’s political literature and a learning tool for young and aspiring leaders.

Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, praised Kwallu as “an honest man whom Plateau youths can trust,” describing the book as more than a biography but “a compass for upcoming political leaders seeking to understand the principles and pitfalls of Nigerian politics.”

Bagos said the work offers a balanced perspective on political life, noting that every politician faces unique battles. He stressed that what defines true leadership is the ability to stay focused and emerge stronger. As Plateau and Nigeria undergo political realignments, he urged leaders to prioritize the collective interest.
“Whatever our ambitions are, Plateau must come first,” he said.

The book was critically reviewed by Dr. Luka Panpe of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, who highlighted its themes, literary structure, and political relevance. The launch also received strong backing from Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, represented by Hon. Daa Ernest Abner, who donated ₦7 million in support of the author and the biography’s subject.

In his remarks, Hon. Isaac Kwallu expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed to the project. He said the turnout and support serve as encouragement to continue serving the people.
“A lot of things I’ve done in the past and many that I’m still doing show that much is expected of me,” he said.
“From the reviewer’s insights, I already understand the heart behind the book. My biography is yet to be fully written, but I believe history will record that I came, I saw, and I conquered.”

Author Cyprian Dayop Jan explained that his inspiration stemmed from a desire to contribute meaningfully to society. He described Kwallu’s story as a metaphor for Nigeria—marked by challenges but also by perseverance and hope.
“Writing for me is about improving society. The story of Isaac Kwallu is a metaphor for Nigeria—full of challenges but also hope and resilience,” he said.

Jan also revealed that his relationship with Kwallu began during his NYSC year in Abuja in 2020, adding that he has since remained “an unrepentant loyalist and disciple of Kwallu’s philosophy.”

In his closing remarks, Bagos emphasized the importance of documenting political experiences, noting that the biography will help young politicians understand leadership beyond public perception.

The launch of “Kwallu: Duels with Political Lizard” was not just a literary gathering but a celebration of leadership, loyalty, and the evolving political landscape of Plateau State. With its rich storytelling and honest reflections on Kwallu’s journey, the book is expected to serve as a beacon of guidance and inspiration for aspiring leaders as the state continues to navigate political transitions.

Netflix wants you to watch ‘Clips,’ its TikTok-like vertical video feed

You’ve heard of Instagram Reels — now get ready for Netflix Clips.

Netflix is redesigning its mobile app and introducing Clips, a vertical video feed intended to help users discover new content by sharing highlights from original Netflix programming.

“Think of ‘Clips’ as a personalized highlight reel that helps you decide what to watch or play next, without endless scrolling,” Netflix wrote in a press release. “You’ll see short clips from series, films and specials tailored to your tastes, with an easy way to go deeper when something grabs your attention.”

The idea is that if you’re on the go, you likely aren’t going to pull out your phone to watch the next three minutes of the “Love is Blind” episode you’re on. But you might watch a short, curated clip of another Netflix show for a fast laugh (which is exactly what Netflix named a similar feature, Fast Laughs, in 2021).

We may have rolled our eyes five years ago when every social media platform rushed to release a TikTok copycat feature, but now, even LinkedIn is pushing vertical video on its mobile app. It’s safe to say that vertical video is here to stay.

Netflix, for its part, has experimented for years with how to incorporate short-form video, and the company seems to have settled on Clips.

It’s not just TikTok-like social feeds where vertical video is taking over. The microdrama industry –bite-sized episodic series, typically under 10 minutes per episode, designed to be watched on a phone screen — which first caught on in Asia, is building momentum in the U.S., making users more accustomed to watching serialized stories on vertical feeds.

Other streamers like Peacock and Tubi are also adding vertical video experiences on mobile.

At TechCrunch Disrupt last October, Netflix Chief Product and Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone talked about Netflix’s experimentation with vertical video but said that Netflix isn’t trying to compete with TikTok.

“[Netflix] is not intending to copy or chase exactly what a TikTok or others are doing because we think that there’s a certain type of entertainment — or moment of truth — that’s especially valuable to our members, and we really want to be focused there, versus trying to be all things at every moment, which I don’t think needs to be a core part of the strategy,” Stone said at the time.
