The Executive Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau, Mr. Rufus Bature, has said that the party in the state has a better chance of representing Plateau state come 2023, and the party will work towards winning the state for the APC during the presidential election in 2023.

Bature said this while speaking with journalists in Jos on Thursday.

He stated that the appointment of Gov. Simon Lalong as Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Director has elevated Plateau state, a feat the Plateau people should be proud of.

“We have the confidence that we will win the 2023 elections, from the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and the Presidency, we will deliver.

“We are fully prepared and ready to go for it, we are waiting for the bell to be rung to start the campaign.

“I think the APC has elevated Plateau to a very big height with the appointment of Lalong to head the campaign team of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign organisation.

“When the ticket wins and the sharing of positions comes, we will have someone to represent us there.

Bature also stated that he believed Tinubu had the passion to lead Nigeria to enviable heights and take it out of the dark.

He admonished Nigerians to leave religion out of politics and embrace development, adding that the APC presidential candidate had a track record of excellent performance.

The party chair frowned on a rumor making rounds in the state alleging that the party was sponsoring the crisis in the Labour Party in the state to mar the chances of its main opposition, the PDP in the coming elections.

He stated that the APC would not labor for Labour Party and its affairs, calling on the people of the state to disregard the news.

Bature said that there was a large number of high-ranking political stalwarts in the state who had defected from their parties to the APC, stating that they would reveal themselves when the campaigns begin.

He called on citizens of the Plateau to join the APC to work towards achieving greatness for the state.

Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has described as horrific the midnight attack on Ngbra-Zongo village in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State that left 12 people dead.

The organisation, in a statement, decried how “Entire families were locked up in rooms of their homes and slaughtered one by one.”

It stated, “Plateau State is increasingly becoming unsafe, with attacks on both rural and urban communities forcing people to live in constant fear of the next attack. Many communities are dotted with mass graves of people killed inside their homes.”

It also berated President Bola Tinubu’s government for failure to tackle widespread killings in Plateau State and other states in the country.

The organisation stated, “The utter failure of President Bola Tinubu’s government to address widespread insecurity is costing lives. While the government of Tinubu is claiming to be tackling the endemic security crisis, the death toll tells a different story.

“The Nigerian authorities have failed the people of Plateau State again and again. Frequent attacks by gunmen have deprived thousands of people of their rights to life, physical integrity, liberty, freedom of movement and access to livelihoods.”

Plateau State has experienced constant attacks by bandits. On Palm Sunday this year, many lost their lives to attacks in Anguwan Rukuba community.

Mr Tinubu visited the state on a condolence visit but met with the grieving families at the Jos airport, promising the state adequate security.

Presidential spokespersons, Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala, had yet to respond to a request for comments on Amnesty International’s criticism of the Bola Tinubu government on the latest attack in Plateau State by bandits.

Trump should take ‘forceful action’ in Nigeria; Tinubu ignoring ongoing Christian genocide: U.S. Lawmaker

President Donald Trump has been called upon to take “forceful action” in Nigeria as U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore accused President Bola Tinubu of folding his hands amid alleged Christian genocide.

“When I visited Nigeria, the government responded swiftly to quell a coup in Benin. Nigeria’s willingness to step in to stop a violent attack in another country, while they stand by as their own Christian citizens are brutalised, makes these absolutely horrific scenes unfolding in Plateau state all the more unconscionable.

“Now, I am asking the Trump administration to take forceful action to defend our innocent brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, the epicentre of an ongoing Christian genocide,” stated the American congressman.

Mr Moore, who was among a U.S. fact-finding delegation to Nigeria on alleged Christian genocide last year, made this call reacting to a video in which people said to be gathered for mass burial of victims of an attack were attacked by gunmen at the burial site.

“Christians — who were gathered for a mass burial for those killed in a previous attack — were viciously murdered by radical Islamic terrorists,” Mr Moore said. “The Nigerian government could root out the terrorism and stop the martyrdom of its own citizens. But, despite receiving early warnings of impending attacks, they are nowhere to be found as Christians are murdered for their faith, like lambs led to slaughter.”

Presidential spokespersons Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the allegation.

Mr Moore’s call for the U.S. president to take forceful action to defend Nigerians comes months after Mr Trump ordered the bombing of terrorists in their enclave in Sokoto on December 25, 2025.

Last week, Mr Moore lashed out at Tinubu’s government for splashing multimillion-dollar to lobby the American Congress while failing to address the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
