The Plateau State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chris Hassan has expressed hope that 2023 will be a year of victory and resounding success for the PDP during the next elections.

Hassan in a press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, John Akans urged the people to remain committed and unshakable towards the rebuilding project of the Governorship Candidate, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang during the next election.

“As we are all aware, 2023 is an election year that presents to us, another auspicious opportunity to renew our pact with the electoral process and reaffirm our trust and confidence, through the ballot box, for our chosen candidates who will get our mandate back, to deliver prosperity and other dividends of democracy to our people.

“The PDP is already the party of choice in Plateau State, with our comprehensive structure and campaigns across all the pulling units, Wards, and Local Government Areas in the State and our excellent performance while in government speaks for us, by the massive and verifiable  projects we delivered while in government are so far in every sector and across the Local Government Area of the state.”

He expressed dismay over the monumental failure, and disastrous and suffocating performance of the APC at the state and national level and assured the people that the party was ready and poised again to take over to rescue and rebuild Plateau and  Nigeria for Nigerians.

“We are blessed in the State, that His Excellency, Barr Caleb Mutfwang our own undisputed leader and the incoming Governor who is poised to rescue and rebuild Plateau state is on the ballot and that gives us the opportunity to make it right this time around.

“There is no doubt Mutfwang is on the ballot as our Candidate for the coming election, for this singular reason as a people we do not have a better alternative or choice than to come out en-masse to vote PDP, for a better and exclusive leadership in the state.

“And again there is no doubt whatsoever, that PDP is the most prepared, most organized, and most loved party in the State and Nigeria at large and we are passionately appealing to all citizens particularly the electorates to make a resounding statement of victory by coming out to vote for the PDP; Atiku/Okowa for President, Mutfwang/ Piyo for Governor and all our National Assembly and State Assembly Candidates, all-the-way, in the 2023 general elections.

“We urge all eligible voters to go and collect their PVCs and to remember that with the new BVAS Technology which will be used to conduct the Elections, your vote is your power and the 2023 votes will surely count and be counted in favour of your chosen candidates.”

Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has described as horrific the midnight attack on Ngbra-Zongo village in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State that left 12 people dead.

The organisation, in a statement, decried how “Entire families were locked up in rooms of their homes and slaughtered one by one.”

It stated, “Plateau State is increasingly becoming unsafe, with attacks on both rural and urban communities forcing people to live in constant fear of the next attack. Many communities are dotted with mass graves of people killed inside their homes.”

It also berated President Bola Tinubu’s government for failure to tackle widespread killings in Plateau State and other states in the country.

The organisation stated, “The utter failure of President Bola Tinubu’s government to address widespread insecurity is costing lives. While the government of Tinubu is claiming to be tackling the endemic security crisis, the death toll tells a different story.

“The Nigerian authorities have failed the people of Plateau State again and again. Frequent attacks by gunmen have deprived thousands of people of their rights to life, physical integrity, liberty, freedom of movement and access to livelihoods.”

Plateau State has experienced constant attacks by bandits. On Palm Sunday this year, many lost their lives to attacks in Anguwan Rukuba community.

Mr Tinubu visited the state on a condolence visit but met with the grieving families at the Jos airport, promising the state adequate security.

Presidential spokespersons, Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala, had yet to respond to a request for comments on Amnesty International’s criticism of the Bola Tinubu government on the latest attack in Plateau State by bandits.

Trump should take ‘forceful action’ in Nigeria; Tinubu ignoring ongoing Christian genocide: U.S. Lawmaker

President Donald Trump has been called upon to take “forceful action” in Nigeria as U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore accused President Bola Tinubu of folding his hands amid alleged Christian genocide.

“When I visited Nigeria, the government responded swiftly to quell a coup in Benin. Nigeria’s willingness to step in to stop a violent attack in another country, while they stand by as their own Christian citizens are brutalised, makes these absolutely horrific scenes unfolding in Plateau state all the more unconscionable.

“Now, I am asking the Trump administration to take forceful action to defend our innocent brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, the epicentre of an ongoing Christian genocide,” stated the American congressman.

Mr Moore, who was among a U.S. fact-finding delegation to Nigeria on alleged Christian genocide last year, made this call reacting to a video in which people said to be gathered for mass burial of victims of an attack were attacked by gunmen at the burial site.

“Christians — who were gathered for a mass burial for those killed in a previous attack — were viciously murdered by radical Islamic terrorists,” Mr Moore said. “The Nigerian government could root out the terrorism and stop the martyrdom of its own citizens. But, despite receiving early warnings of impending attacks, they are nowhere to be found as Christians are murdered for their faith, like lambs led to slaughter.”

Presidential spokespersons Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the allegation.

Mr Moore’s call for the U.S. president to take forceful action to defend Nigerians comes months after Mr Trump ordered the bombing of terrorists in their enclave in Sokoto on December 25, 2025.

Last week, Mr Moore lashed out at Tinubu’s government for splashing multimillion-dollar to lobby the American Congress while failing to address the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
