The Plateau Progressive Minds for Positive Development has condemned the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, describing the incident as a heinous act carried out by unknown gunmen.
Speaking at a world press conference in Jos, the group expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and commended residents of Angwan Rukuba for maintaining calm and refusing to resort to self-help.
The group also praised Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for his swift response, particularly the imposition of a 48-hour curfew in Jos North and efforts to strengthen security to prevent further escalation.
They called on security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible, including their sponsors, to serve as a deterrent.
However, the group raised concerns over what it described as false narratives being circulated by “crisis merchants,” alleging that Governor Mutfwang was complicit in the attacks and targeting Muslims in Jos.
Describing the claims as misleading and unfounded, the group noted that the Palm Sunday incident occurred in a predominantly Christian area, with victims reported to be Christians.
Highlighting the governor’s efforts toward unity and inclusivity, the group cited initiatives such as infrastructure development in Muslim communities, renovation of the Jos Central Mosque, and sponsorship of Muslim pilgrims for Hajj.
The group urged Plateau residents to remain united and support the present administration, while also calling on youths to shun violence and uphold peaceful coexistence.
It further passed a vote of confidence on Governor Mutfwang, commending his performance despite ongoing security challenges.
The statement was signed by the Coordinator of the group, Morgan Armstrong Pam.
