Remi Tinubu donates N500m to 500 Plateau families

Senator Remi Tinubu, the wife of the President, visited Plateau State on Tuesday and donated the sum of N500 million to 500 families who have been severely affected by violent conflicts in six local government areas of the state

The First Lady who was in Jos on Tuesday to make the donation and commiserate with the victims, encouraged them not to lose hope as her husband and other stakeholders work to ensure enduring peace in communities

Speaking at the Government House, the First Lady who is also the Chairperson of Renewed Hope Initiative Foundation, said:

โ€œI am aware of the unfortunate crisis that bedevilled the State, particularly Mangu people. The report got me worried and concerned about the destruction of peace of the affected families. I can imagine the destruction of lives and properties. A time like this is not to come and express our sympathies, but to take concrete actions to alleviate the sufferings of those affected. That is why we are here today, not just to sympathise with you but to offer our meagre support

โ€œThis N500 million is our modest support to enable affected families to renew their lives as we provide them with the means to renew their shelter and other essential needs. To the affected families, I want you to know that you are not alone in the journey of recovery, we stand with you in solidarity and prayers. I urge you not to lose hope but to have faith in God.”

The State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang commended Mrs. Tinubu for the gesture describingย  her as โ€œa very compassionate leader who has passion for humanity and was not ready to play politics with her love for humanity.โ€

The Governor admonished the beneficiaries to use the resources judiciously and also be their brotherโ€™s keepers by sharing with other families who were not selected.

Earlier in her remarks, the wife of the Imo State Governor, Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma who was on her entourage said:

โ€œThese 500 families were carefully selected through the office of the State Governor for 6 local governments โ€“ Mangu, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, and Jos South LGA respectively, to ensure that those who are affected are the direct beneficiaries.โ€

The Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba who gave the vote of thanks appreciated the First Lady for the gesture and prayed for wisdom for President Tinubu to continue to pilot the affairs of the country.

A group, Women for Women Community, Plateau Chapter, has called for greater inclusion, fairness and equal political participation for women ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The call was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by the groupโ€™s Convener, Mrs Rhoda Jahota; Coordinator, Mrs Felicia Bala; and Secretary, Mrs Kauna Samuel.

The group said women remained critical stakeholders in peace building, economic growth, community leadership and family stability, stressing that their contributions should reflect in political leadership structures.

โ€œAs vital stakeholders in peace, growth and development, women have continued to contribute immensely to nation-building, community leadership, economic advancement and family stability.

โ€œIt is only right that these contributions are meaningfully reflected in our political leadership and decision-making structures,โ€ the statement said.

The group appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors and other stakeholders in Plateau to support competent and visionary women seeking elective offices.

It also urged political party leaders and chairmen to ensure a fair, transparent and level playing field for female aspirants during party primaries and elections.

โ€œThe inclusion of women on the ballot is not merely a political gesture,โ€ the group stated.

โ€œIt is a necessary step toward strengthening democracy, promoting good governance and building a more inclusive society,โ€ it added.

The group further urged women, mothers and youths to rise above political, ethnic and religious differences in supporting credible female candidates.

According to the statement, leadership should be driven by integrity, competence, compassion and vision rather than gender, ethnicity or political affiliation.

โ€œThe future of Plateau State is brighter when women are empowered to lead alongside men,โ€ the group stated.

โ€œA society that gives women equal opportunity in governance is positioned for sustainable peace, justice, unity and development,โ€ it added.

The group described the advocacy as a call for progress, inclusion and transformational leadership, declaring that โ€œit is Women Oโ€™Clock on the Plateau.โ€ (NAN)
