The Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chris Hassan, has issued a call for calm and encouraged citizens to uphold the law following the recent decision by the appeal court mandating a rerun of the Plateau North Senatorial District election.
Chairman Hassan reassured the public, saying, “We are undeterred by this development, as we have a history of victories since 1999, and we remain committed to sustaining our successes in the state.” Kefas Sumdi, the Personal Assistant on Media and Protocol to the PDP State Chairman, provided this statement on October 23, 2023.
He expressed unwavering confidence in the PDP’s victory in the National/State Assemblies elections, believing that the citizens of Plateau would turn out in large numbers to support his party in the upcoming rerun.
“Our victory in the election was clear and undisputed. No matter how many times we go back to the polls, the PDP will emerge victorious,” he asserted.
Hassan mentioned that the party’s legal team is diligently examining the appellate court’s judgment, and further details will be communicated to the public in the coming days.
The Chairman also offered a prayer, referencing Psalms 34:19, which states, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” He assured his loyal supporters that this trial would ultimately become a testimony and a reason for thanksgiving, all by the grace of God.
However, some sources have speculated that the PDP cannot and will not participate as a party in the forthcoming re-run as far as the appeal court judgment is concerned. Insisting that the party was automatically removed following the court order that the Commission conduct a fresh election not later than 90 days from today 22nd October 2023.
