In a disturbing report, the Gideon and Funmi Para Mallam Peace Foundation reveals the heartbreaking truth about the ongoing killings in Plateau State and the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to their statement, Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam, President and CEO of the foundation, said more than 300 people have lost their lives since April, while a staggering 6,603 households have been affected by the brutal attacks.

The foundation, which called on stakeholders to work for peace, said, “there are currently Eighteen Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty-One(18,751) Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are now housed in Fourteen Camps.

“The fourteen camps are hosted by the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Local Church Councils (LCCs). A Breakdown of the IDPs shows: 2,081 widows, 6,066 Orphans between the ages of 0-5 years old. Old people account for 1,057 and teenagers and adult orphans accounting for 828.

“A total of 6,603 households are currently affected by these deadly attacks. Over 300 lives have been lost on the Plateau from April to date. Out of this number, over 200 lives have been lost to sustained violent attacks in Mangu LGA, as at Saturday, July 8th, 2023.

“The current harvest of deaths in Mangu LGA must be treated with the utmost urgency it deserves.”

The statement called for a concerted effort to tame the crisis, saying that the:

“Federal Government, Plateau State and indeed all States in Nigeria need to work together with unity of purpose, across political party lines to find peace or all the troubled hotspots in the entire country.

“Focusing on misleading narratives of the violence is itself not only misleading but unhelpful and glaring political correctness and hypocrisy. The narrative of reprisal attacks is not only simplistic but it hides the real issues and therefore the unjust killings have lingered on for too long not just in Mangu LGA but in other hotspots in the Middle Belt Areas in particular,” the foundation said.

Governor Uba Sani has promised that Kaduna State Government will shoulder the responsibility of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu’s family, a lady who was murdered by a mob at Maraban Jos, a town along Kaduna-Zaria expressway.

The Governor who made the pledge on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit on deceased’s family, said that his administration will cater for the upkeep of the husband and four children, including sponsoring the latter’s education.

Penultimate Sunday, a mob brutally killed Malama Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher and set her body ablaze at Maraban Jos, a town in Igabi local government, acting on accusations that she tried to kidnap children.

Speaking after commiserating with the deceased’s family at Maraban Jos last Saturday, Governor Uba Sani condemned the mob action, promising that the killers will face the full wrath of the law.

According to the Governor, he was out of the state on an official assignment when the murder occurred but he had sent senior Government officials to pay condolence on the family.

‘’I’m also working with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State of the SSS, as well as all the relevant security agencies in Kaduna State, to get to the root of the matter.

‘’And I’m happy to say that they have done an extreme investigation into this incident. As we are speaking, about 41 persons have been charged with culpable homicide.

‘’And about 41 went through investigation also; that’s 82. Thirty suspects have also have been charged for unlawful assembly,’’ he disclosed.

The Governor promised that all those who were involved in the murder, will face the law, no matter their status or number, to serve a deterrent against people taking laws into their own hands.

Governor Uba Sani argued that although the security agencies did their best, they should also conduct a thorough investigation on the complicity of some of their personnel, especially the Maraban Jos Divisional Police Officer(DPO).

Special Adviser Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has declared that nobody in the current administration is afraid of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Dare insisted that Obi was a threat and a nightmare but currently Tinubu’s administration is not afraid of him.

Featuring on the latest edition of Mic On Podcast, the presidential aide noted that Tinubu’s administration is standing on a solid ground of performance.

He said: “This government is not afraid of Peter Obi, the same right he has to ask Tinubu to resign is the same right the government has to respond to him that the president will not resign, there is no basis or reason for the president to resign.

“The right that the government has to educate to say that you need to go back to school, we run a presidential system, we have elections every four years and not just for the president but for the Senate and House of Representatives.

“That’s where you can go back for the citizens, so nobody is afraid of Peter Obi.

“He is not a nightmare, maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance.

“We are able to interrogate the problems of this country. Peter Obi will not defeat President Tinubu in Lagos again.”
