The Leader of Njiko Igbo Forum, Rev. Dr. Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, has warned that Nigeria may not successfully conduct the 2027 general election if Peter Obi is prevented from appearing on the presidential ballot.

The remark followed Friday’s Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as a political party.

DAILY POST reported that Justice Isah Dashen, who delivered the ruling in Lokoja, held that the court’s earlier judgment affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, PMP, which claimed ownership of the logo adopted by the NDC.

The judge ruled that the PMP was not joined as a party in the original suit despite its claim over the disputed logo.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Obioha alleged that public confidence in the judiciary had declined due to what he described as inconsistent decisions and accused the current administration of weakening the institution.

He said: “The citizens of this country, the genuine citizens of this country, who are looking up to a democracy that will have aimed to be sustained and maintained are not looking at the courts at all.

“Now we have no regard for the judiciary in Nigeria. The judiciary in Nigeria is full of inconsistencies, adding to the leadership of this country, the APC government of this country, that influenced what they have done since they came into power, particularly since Tinubu came into power.

“He has weakened the judiciary, has messed them up.

“As far as political arrangements are concerned, or pronouncement by the courts, we don’t trust them any longer, because they are one of the arms of government that are weak, that should be strengthened.

“If Peter Obi is frustrated and is not on the ballot, there will be no election in 2027. That’s not a threat. It is going to work out that way. I’m trying to… If you like, you can call it prophecy. I’m a reverend. Call it anything, but I’m just warning Nigerians.

“If Peter Obi, with all the struggles and on the level he’s now, is  frustrated not to be on the ballot, there will be no election in 2027.

“And on 29th May next year, Tinubu will not be the president because we are tired of the system. We are tired.

“We are strangulated, and the rest will be story about this country called Nigeria.”

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State on Friday suspended a N1.3 billion hospital renovation project after publicly querying the quality of work.

He cited the use of low-quality materials and non-compliance with project specifications.

The project is for the renovation and remodelling of the Gumel General Hospital.

Governor Namadi had conducted an unscheduled night inspection of the facility in Gumel Local Government Area.

The contract was awarded to Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited last December, with an eight-month completion timeline.

“The work is very poor; that is the truth. What we asked to be done in Gumel is the total renovation of this hospital, which includes remodelling where necessary,” the governor stated.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the contractor’s work, he added that: “What I have seen is not what I asked them to do, so I directed that this work be suspended completely.”

The governor warned that substandard work would not be tolerated, adding, “We are going to sit with the contractor. The contractor is not doing what we asked him to do, and we are not ready to take it. Finish!”

The governor’s visit to Gumel General Hospital sparked widespread social media reactions, with commentators calling for similar oversight visits to other ongoing hospital renovation projects across the state.

Specifically, one commentator urged the governor to inspect the Gwaram Cottage Hospital—which is also undergoing upgrades—alleging that the current renovation work is substandard.

Governor Namadi had in March 2025 ordered the rework of a N10.8 billion Gully Erosion Control Project of the state government over the use of low-quality materials and raised concerns about the likely durability of a project designed to last 100 years.

Waymo says robotaxi service has resumed after it made “temporary adjustments” in San Francisco amidst a power outage that appears to have affected around 7,000 PG&E customers in the city.

According to a screenshot posted on social media, Waymo told SF customers that service was “temporarily paused” and that “freeway routes are unavailable.”

When TechCrunch reached out to the Alphabet-owned company for comment, a spokesperson said in a statement, “We are making temporary adjustments to our service while we monitor local conditions. We know riders depend on us, and we will return to normal operations as soon as possible.”

Following the initial publication of this article, a Waymo spokesperson added that the company “decided to pause service for approx. one hour to assess the scale of the power outage affecting a large portion of San Francisco and coordinate with local officials.”

Power outages have affected Waymo service in the past, for example when a number of Waymo vehicles stalled on city streets during a blackout in December, and when a similar incident paralyzed traffic during a Golden Gate Bridge fireworks show on the Fourth of July.

As a result, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has called for tougher state regulations to “adequately address how autonomous vehicles operate during major incidents, planned or not.”

This post has been updated with additional comment from Waymo reflecting that service has resumed.
