A delegation of traditional leaders from Kerang District in Mangu Local Government Area has commended Dr. Haggai Gutap, Technical Head of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme in Plateau State, for his contributions to grassroots development.
The leaders, led by community elder Luka Dampak, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Gutap on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the NG-CARES State Office in Jos, where they expressed appreciation for the ongoing projects in their community, particularly road construction efforts that have improved mobility and boosted economic activity in Kerang and its environs.
In their opening, the visit began with prayers offered by one of the traditional rulers. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dampak described Dr. Gutap’s leadership as a source of joy and transformation for not only the Timjaghas community but the entire Mangu Local Government Area and Plateau State.
“We are here to sincerely appreciate your good works, especially the road construction projects that have opened up our communities. These developments have improved mobility and economic activities,” Dampak said. “We also deeply appreciate the employment opportunities and agricultural support provided under your watch.”
The delegation also used the occasion to call for additional government attention in key areas, including potable water, rural electrification, and youth employment. They pledged their support for Dr. Gutap’s work and extended an open invitation for him to attend an upcoming meeting of the Kerang Traditional Council.
Prayers were also offered for the continued success of Dr. Gutap and his team, along with blessings for Governor Caleb Mutfwang, whom they commended for his administration’s inclusive approach and commitment to infrastructure development.
In response, Dr. Gutap expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit and goodwill messages, describing the gesture as both humbling and encouraging.
“I am truly grateful for your kind words and your prayers. Your visit means a lot to me and to the entire NG-CARES team. We remain committed to doing more for our communities,” he said.
Dr. Gutap emphasized the importance of government presence in rural areas and urged the traditional leaders to continue mentoring the youth on self-reliance and community participation.
“I urge you to speak to our young people about self-reliance and skill-building. Let them learn to ‘catch fish’ and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” he said.
He also recommended the establishment of a Community Development Association (CDA) in Kerang, which he said would enhance local ownership of projects and attract further interventions.
On the issue of potable water, Dr. Gutap assured the leaders that technical teams would be sent to assess the situation, with efforts already underway to provide a sustainable solution.
He concluded by appreciating Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his unwavering support, noting that the state’s development drive under his leadership was yielding visible and impactful results.
