Former presidential aide, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has warned that the All Progressives Congress, APC, could weaken its internal cohesion if it continues to sideline some of its founding members in favour of newer entrants.

Obono-Obla, reacting to comments made by APC chieftain Cletus Obun during an interview on Arise Television, said many party loyalists who helped build the APC from its formative years have been left out of key political appointments and decision-making processes.

He recalled that the APC emerged in 2013 through the merger of opposition political parties, including the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), ahead of the 2015 general elections.

According to him, several individuals who played active roles in building the party at the grassroots have gradually become less visible in its affairs, particularly in Cross River State.

He cited himself, former National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the APC, Hilliard Eta, and former Minister of State for Education, John Odey, among those he described as early party loyalists whose contributions should not be overlooked.

Obono-Obla argued that while political parties naturally attract new members, sustained recognition of long-serving members is essential for unity, institutional memory and grassroots mobilisation.

He warned that neglecting founding members could encourage internal discontent and deepen divisions within the ruling party.

The former presidential aide urged the APC leadership to adopt an inclusive approach that accommodates both pioneer members and newer entrants in order to strengthen party unity ahead of future political contests.

Her selection follows the successful completion of CAF’s mandatory medical, fitness and technical assessments, confirming her readiness to officiate at one of the continent’s most important football tournaments.

For Akintoye, this appointment is more than a personal milestone—it is another proud moment for Nigerian football. At a time when opportunities for Nigerian referees at major continental competitions have been limited, her achievement reflects the growing quality and global competitiveness of the country’s match officials.

A graduate of Physical and Health Education from the University of Lagos, Akintoye has steadily built an impressive officiating career. Since becoming a FIFA-listed referee in 2021, she has handled matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), CAF Women’s Champions League, WAFU B competitions and FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Widely respected for her calm authority, excellent player management, strong fitness and consistent application of the Laws of the Game, she has earned praise from players, coaches and fellow officials alike. Her professionalism and composure have become defining qualities of her officiating style.

Beyond football, Akintoye is also a professional photographer, demonstrating her creativity and versatility away from the pitch. She has successfully balanced her career in sports officiating with her passion for photography, reflecting the discipline, attention to detail and professionalism that define her work both on and off the field.

She is equally committed to developing the next generation of referees. Through her annual Female Young Girls Bootcamp (FYGB) initiative, she has mentored and trained more than 100 aspiring female referees, helping to create new opportunities for women in football officiating across Nigeria.

Her latest CAF appointment serves as a powerful reminder that excellence, discipline and perseverance are rewarded. It also sends an encouraging message to young Nigerians—especially women—that with commitment and continuous self-improvement, it is possible to compete and succeed at the highest level.

As Africa turns its attention to Morocco for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Yemisi Eunice Akintoye will proudly represent Nigeria on one of the continent’s biggest football stages. Her presence is not only a celebration of her personal journey but also a symbol of the bright future of Nigerian refereeing.

With every whistle she blows, Akintoye continues to raise the standard, inspire the next generation and strengthen Nigeria’s reputation in international football officiating. She is more than a referee—she is a mentor, a professional photographer, and an ambassador of excellence whose story continues to inspire aspiring officials and young Nigerians across the country.

The Plateau State Chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has announced plans to launch an online radio station aimed at promoting its members and boosting the growth of the state’s creative industry.

The announcement was made by the PMAN Governor in Plateau State, Gabriel Hodus, popularly known as Elmore, who described the initiative as a major step towards empowering musicians, entertainers and other creative professionals across the state.

According to Elmore, the proposed online radio station will provide free airplay for songs by registered PMAN members, giving local artists increased visibility and access to a wider audience. The platform will also offer free promotion for members’ events, creative projects and advertisements, helping to reduce the financial burden associated with publicity and marketing.

He explained that the initiative is designed to create a dedicated platform where Plateau’s rich musical heritage and creative talents can be showcased to audiences within and beyond the state.

Speaking on the project, Elmore said:

“Are you ready for the Plateau PMAN Radio? Where songs of members will be played for free, where events of members will be promoted for free, and promotions of all creatives and adverts of members for free. Let the music play.”

The planned online radio station is expected to serve as a powerful promotional platform for Plateau-based artists while creating more opportunities for collaboration, exposure and growth within the state’s entertainment and creative ecosystem.

The initiative further reflects PMAN Plateau’s commitment to supporting its members and positioning Plateau State as one of Nigeria’s leading hubs for music and creative excellence.
