“We’re Building a Future of Home Ownership”— Mortgage Institute Inducts New Members, Strengthens Collaboration with Government and Stakeholders

The Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders of Nigeria (Chartered) — IMBLN — in partnership with Oakland Business School, Jos, has inducted a new set of members into the professional body, reaffirming its commitment to deepening professionalism and expanding access to housing across the country.

The induction ceremony, held on Sunday at Plateau Club 1921 Main Hall in Jos, brought together key players in the mortgage and real estate sectors, alongside representatives of federal and state government agencies, to explore ways of strengthening partnerships for sustainable housing development.

Representing the Hon. Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, Hon. Santi Inuwa said the Ministry is fully aligned with the vision of the Institute, noting that access to decent housing plays a critical role in lifting citizens out of poverty.

“The Minister believes deeply in the work of this Institute,” Inuwa said. “He assures you of his continued support to ensure your initiatives receive the collaboration they deserve from the federal government. The partnership between the Ministry and the Institute will help create structured mortgage opportunities that uplift Nigerians.”

Speaking on behalf of the Registrar-General of IMBLN, Dr. Jasper Adeleye, the Executive Chairman/CEO of Oakland Business School, Mr. Godwin E. Urhie, said the Institute was established by law to professionalize and regulate the mortgage and real estate sector in Nigeria.

He emphasized that IMBLN seeks to restore integrity and trust to the sector by ensuring that only qualified, ethical practitioners are certified to operate.
“The real estate industry is one of the most significant globally,” he said. “In Nigeria, we are committed to ensuring that mortgage and real estate businesses are handled by professionals with competence and character. Our certification prepares members to operate both locally and internationally.”

Representing the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Bojough Ronald Terpase, Head of Admin and Operations at the Jos Zonal Office, congratulated the new inductees and expressed the Bank’s readiness to deepen collaboration with IMBLN in promoting home ownership and reforming the mortgage system.

“Our mission and that of the Institute align,” Terpase noted. “We are both committed to making housing accessible. Through initiatives such as Rent-to-Own, Construction Loans, and Home Renovation Loans, we are simplifying access to affordable housing for more Nigerians.”

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Wuyep Vondul Ayuba, who represented the Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Kachollom Gang, described the induction as a “value addition” to Nigeria’s real estate and mortgage ecosystem.

He commended the collaboration between the Institute, Oakland Business School, and the Federal Mortgage Bank, calling on stakeholders to “think outside the box” in developing creative solutions to Nigeria’s housing deficit.

“There is a huge demand for affordable housing,” Ayuba said. “The Federal Mortgage Bank and the Chartered Institute must continue to innovate and collaborate to make home ownership a reality for ordinary Nigerians. The Plateau State Government remains open to partnership in this effort.”

The ceremony marked another milestone in IMBLN’s mission to strengthen professionalism and expand its network of certified experts, as the Institute continues to push for a more structured and transparent mortgage industry in Nigeria.
