The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State has revealed that the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and other national assembly elections will further establish the dominance of APC in Plateau politics.

Speaking with the Newsmen in the state, the Spokesman of the Generation Next Campaign Council, Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, expressed the readiness of the party for all the elections, adding that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, wins in all 17 local government areas of the state.

Bamaiyi said the party had campaigned and engaged various stakeholders, adding that the response was positive and the people were ready to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Dr. Nentawe Yiltwada, on March 11, and all other candidates standing for election on the platform of APC.

He said those who assume that the opposition party will win the presidential election on the premise that it has never lost a presidential election in Plateau since 1999 are living in delusion and living in the past.

According to him, the permutations have changed, and he added that the APC in the past eight years has fully entrenched itself and consequently become a party to be reckoned with based on the people-oriented programs executed by the state and federal governments in the state.

“We are ready for the general elections and remain confident that the people of Plateau State will come out en masse on Saturday to vote for the APC candidates across the board. Those standing for election on the platform of APC are credible and people of impeccable character. “There’s no doubt Saturday is for APC,” he said.

He attributed the people’s confidence in Tinubu/Shettima, Nentawe/Pam, Governor Lalong, and others to their achievements in their various political journeys, adding that they have all contributed positively to the development of Nigeria and Plateau State.

“APC is on its way to winning the Saturday elections in Plateau State; the foundation to this effect has been laid through credible performance in the past eight years.”

He said, “The APC is on its way to winning the elections with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, who are great Nigerians that have achieved a lot in their various political journeys.”

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council, has condemned the rising wave of political violence ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The union also warned that the trend poses a serious threat to peace, public safety and the democratic process.

The Council expressed concern over increasing reports of killings, intimidation and destruction of property linked to political activities, saying the situation could undermine the credibility of the election if urgent steps were not taken to curb the violence.

In a statement jointly signed by the Osun NUJ Chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, and the Secretary, Olalekan Akindoju, the union cited a report by the Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, which recorded 44 election-related violent incidents across the state between October 2025 and June 2026.

According to the statement, the incidents reportedly resulted in the deaths of 13 people, a development the Council described as alarming and requiring immediate intervention by all stakeholders.

“The figures should serve as a wake-up call to all stakeholders. No political ambition is worth the loss of human lives,” the statement said.

The Council called on security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further violence by protecting lives and property, maintaining professionalism and impartiality, and ensuring that those responsible for violent acts were brought to justice regardless of their political affiliations.

It also urged political parties, governorship candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns centred on issues affecting the people, rather than engaging in actions capable of fuelling unrest.

“The NUJ cautions political leaders against making inflammatory statements that could incite violence. They have a responsibility to restrain their supporters and place the interests of Osun State above partisan considerations.

“The Council appeals to residents, particularly young people, not to allow themselves to be used as agents of political violence or intimidation during the electioneering period,” the statement added.

It emphasised that the lives and future of the state’s youth should not be sacrificed for political interests, urging them to reject any attempt to lure them into unlawful activities.

The NUJ reaffirmed the commitment of journalists in Osun State to promoting responsible journalism, factual reporting and public enlightenment throughout the governorship election campaign.

It also called on media practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession by avoiding sensational reports capable of escalating political tension, while encouraging balanced and accurate coverage of political activities across the state.

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his residence in Kano State.

Obasanjo was received by Kwankwaso alongside the NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, who described the meeting as an occasion for cordial interactions and warm exchanges between the political leaders.

However, details of the discussions held during the closed-door meeting were not disclosed.

Kwankwaso, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence during Obasanjo’s second term in office between 2003 and 2007, has maintained a longstanding political relationship with the former president.

The meeting has further fuelled speculations about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in light of reports suggesting efforts to strengthen opposition collaboration.

NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is widely regarded as a close ally of Obasanjo, who publicly supported him during the 2023 presidential election.
