The Plateau State Government has disowned an open letter circulating online that criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned visit to the state for the burial of the mother of APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In a statement released late Monday, the government described the letter — purportedly signed by one Sargwak Haruna on behalf of a group called “Plateau United Front” — as “mischievous, ill-motivated, and dead on arrival.”
The controversial letter had questioned the timing of President Tinubu’s visit, alleging that it could be seen as prioritising political loyalty over the welfare of Plateau residents amid ongoing insecurity that has claimed thousands of lives.
“Given that you have not visited the state since becoming President, despite ongoing attacks, we are concerned about the potential implications for your relationship with the people of Plateau,” the authors claimed.
But the Plateau Government dismissed the claims as false and an attempt to create friction between the President and Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, stressed that Governor Mutfwang had always appreciated President Tinubu’s interventions on security matters affecting the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Government of Plateau State dissociates itself entirely from this ill-conceived publication, which does not represent the views of the governor, the government, or any patriotic Plateau citizen committed to peace, unity, and mutual respect,” Bere said.
He noted that Governor Mutfwang holds the President and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in high esteem, consistently recognising their efforts to find lasting solutions to Plateau’s security challenges.
The government also called on security agencies to investigate and expose the authors and sponsors of the letter.
“Governor Mutfwang, together with law-abiding citizens of Plateau State, looks forward to warmly welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau at any time he chooses,” the statement added.
