The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has given the Federal Government and the Plateau State government a 48-hour ultimatum to rescue the abducted student of the University of Jos, John Arum, or face massive protests from Nigerian students across the state and the country.

Arum’s plight came to the limelight after bandits who reportedly abducted him while travelling from Jos, the Plateau State capital to Kaduna, released a video where he was brutalized severely, with the abductors demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.

Reacting to the abduction of Arum, the national student body in a statement issued on Tuesday by President, Olushola Oladoja, condemned the kidnapping of the UniJos student and called on the government to do everything possible to effect his rescue with immediate effect.

The statement said NANS waa outraged over the incident which it described as a reflection of the deteriorating security situation in the country.

The union stressed that the disturbing video which was evidence of the student’s captivity showed the conditions under which he is being held and the inhumane treatment meted out to him.

“It is disturbing and highly challenging to acknowledge that such inhumane treatment can be meted out by one human to another,” the statement said.

“However, what is more perplexing is the apathy and weak response of our security institutions and local authorities at the state and federal levels.

“The horrifying incident that has happened to John is yet another reminder of the steady and unacceptable decline in the safety and security of Nigerian citizens, especially students.

“No Nigerian student should have to endure such acts of wickedness, cruelty, and dehumanising experience, just as no family should be left in anguish due to negligence.

“Silence, delay, or half-measures in moments when decisive action is required only embolden perpetrators and deepen public despair.

“By this statement, NANS is giving the Plateau State government and the Federal Government 48-hours to immediately deploy intelligence and security resources to secure Arum’s safe release, as well as regular updates to the public on efforts being made.

“As an organisation, our demands are clear, and failure to meet them within the stipulated timeframe will compel Nigerian students to embark on a nationwide solidarity protest and shutdown of socio-economic and academic activities,” the statement warned.

Tesla is expanding its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston, according to a social media post from the company.

The post says simply that “Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston 🤠” and includes a 14-second video showing Tesla vehicles driving without human monitors or drivers in the front seat.

The company now offers robotaxi service in three cities, all of them in Texas, after launching in Austin last year and starting to offer rides without safety drivers in January 2026. In a February filing, Tesla said that its Austin robotaxis have been involved in 14 crashes since launch.

It also offers a more limited ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Tesla may not be running many vehicles in either of these new markets yet, with crowdsourced data on the Robotaxi Tracker website only registering a single vehicle in each city (compared to 46 active vehicles logged in Austin).

Longtime venture capitalist Ron Conway said Friday that he was “recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.”

In a post on X, Conway wrote that he “will be stepping back from some of my usual activities,” but he will “continue to support” founders backed by his firm SV Angel: “With a more focused and balanced schedule, I can prioritize treatments while helping SV Angel founders at inflection points like we always do!”

Conway also said SV Angel will be “unchanged,” as his son Topher Conway “has made all of our investment decisions for the better part of the last decade.” And he noted that another son, Ronny Conway, joined as a managing partner in 2024.

“They bring experience from nearly every major technology cycle in Silicon Valley and are now focused on partnering with founders building the future of AI,” Conway said.

He added that he’s not revealing “the specific type of cancer” in his diagnosis, because he doesn’t want “speculation” about the prognosis, but he said he remains “optimistic.”

“I am fortunate to have the best/amazing team of UCSF doctors in San Francisco, and as you know, I never back down from a fight,” Conway said.
