The Defence Headquarters says troops have intensified nationwide operations, recording significant successes in dismantling terrorist logistics networks.

It also said it rescued kidnapped victims, recovering arms and illicit materials across multiple theatres.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja, while giving update on operational activities conducted between March 20 and 26.

Onoja said that troops under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, had sustained coordinated offensives against terrorists, insurgents, and other criminal elements through intelligence-driven missions and joint operations.

He said that in the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai maintained pressure on the Boko Haram and the ISWAP fighters.

This , he said, led to the arrest of suspected informants, logistics suppliers and arms couriers across Borno, Adamawa and Taraba.

“Notably, troops recovered AK-47 rifles, magazines, and logistics items, while several suspects linked to terrorist activities were apprehended in Maiduguri, Damboa, Kaga, and Mubi areas,” he said.

In the North-West, Onoja said troops of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted offensive operations supported by air assets.

He said this neutralised terrorists and dismantling their support structures in Sokoto and Zamfara states.

He added that troops also rescued a kidnapped local government official in Kano State, while several terrorists were neutralised with arms, ammunition, and communication equipment recovered during ambush and clearance operations.

According to him, in the North-Central, troops under Operations Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace and Whirl Stroke recorded multiple successes in counter-kidnapping and anti-terrorism.

He said troops responded swiftly to an attack on a worship centre in Kwara, rescuing some abducted victims, while efforts were ongoing to secure the release of others.

“Troops also arrested suspects in possession of explosives and improvised explosive device materials in Niger, while additional suspects linked to criminal activities were apprehended in Plateau, Benue, and Kogi.

“Several kidnapped victims were rescued during clearance and fighting patrols, while weapons and ammunition were recovered from fleeing criminals,” he said.

Onoja added that troops discovered and safely detonated improvised explosive devices, as well as dismantled criminal hideouts across forested areas and border communities.

In the South-South, he said troops of Operation Delta Safe sustained anti-oil theft operations.

This, he said, led to the destruction of illegal refining sites and recovery of thousands of litres of stolen crude oil and refined products in Rivers and Cross River.

He said that the suspects involved in oil bunkering and kidnapping were arrested, while vehicles and equipment used for illegal activities were intercepted.

“Similarly, in the South-East, troops of Operation Udo Ka neutralised threats linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

“Troops successfully detonated improvised explosive devices and destroyed a major illegal refining site in Imo, recovering and destroying large volumes of stolen petroleum products,” he said.

Onoja said that the cumulative successes underscored the effectiveness of ongoing military strategies and improved synergy among security agencies.

According to him, the sustained pressure on criminal elements has significantly degraded their operational capabilities and enhanced public confidence.

He conveyed the appreciation of the CDS to troops for their dedication and commended the support of other security agencies, the media, and the public.

Onoja assured Nigerians of the military’s commitment to sustaining ongoing offensives until all threats to national security were neutralised.

He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.(NAN)

Factional presidential candidate Accord Party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, Chris Imumolen, has denied pledging allegiance to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Day Break’ on Thursday, Imumolen said he has no issue with anyone aspiring to any political office.

He noted that he only wants the party’s rightful membership and structure to be restored through the proper legal process before the court.

“I have not pledged any personal allegiance to Governor Adeleke.I have no issue with anyone aspiring to political office.

“My only concern is ensuring that the right process is followed in Accord, so the party does not produce a governor who could lose office over irregularities.

“Accord does not produce a governor who would eventually lose the seat because of some inappropriate process which have brought the person in.

“I’m only trying to make sure that the chairmanship position of Accord, which I rightfully won is gotten back through the right process, which is the court,” he said.

A human rights organisation, the International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT Global), has called on the Plateau State Government to withdraw any directive that suggests shooting pastoralists found trespassing on farmlands.

The group made the call in a statement issued after reacting to recent developments and a court judgment involving Jos North Local Government Area.

The statement was signed by Amb. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, Country Director (Nigeria) of IHRC-RFT Global.

IHRC-RFT Global, which has Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), said it welcomed the state government’s commitment to the rule of law and respect for judicial independence.

The organisation also commended the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, for urging calm and encouraging respect for legal processes in the state.

“As an organisation committed to human rights, justice, democratic governance, and peaceful coexistence, we commend the Governor for reaffirming the principles of the rule of law, judicial independence, due process, and the protection of the rights and dignity of all residents,” the group said.

However, the group expressed concern over earlier directives suggesting that pastoralists caught grazing on farmlands could be shot, describing such a position as dangerous and inconsistent with constitutional rights.

“In the same spirit of constitutionalism and respect for human rights, we respectfully call on the Plateau State Government to review and withdraw any previous statements or directives suggesting that pastoralists found grazing on farmlands should be shot,” the statement said.

IHRC-RFT Global stressed that while it supports efforts to protect farmlands and communities from encroachment, the use of lethal force must not replace lawful procedures.

It warned that such actions raise serious concerns about the right to life and due process.

“We fully support efforts to protect farmers, farmlands, and community assets, but the use of lethal force outside clearly established legal procedures raises serious concerns regarding the right to life, due process, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” it added.

The organisation said any violation of anti-open grazing laws or land-use regulations should be handled through legal means such as arrest, investigation, prosecution, and court rulings, rather than extrajudicial actions.

“We believe that violations should be addressed through lawful means, including arrest, investigation, prosecution, and judicial determination, rather than measures that may be interpreted as endorsing extrajudicial actions,” the statement said.

It reaffirmed its commitment to peace-building and peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
