President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are expected in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday 27th January 2028 for the formal reception of Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the ruling party.

The event will officially mark Governor Mutfwang’s entry into the APC and is expected to draw national attention to Plateau State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Sir Joseph Ari, who said the reception has already generated excitement and heightened political activities across the state.

“To this end, all is now set for the earth-shaking reception which has since generated happiness and charged the political atmosphere in the state,” the statement read.

According to Ari, the event has sparked widespread interest and anticipation among residents, with preparations nearing completion.

He disclosed that the Central Planning Committee, co-chaired by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkon, has been working round the clock to ensure a successful and hitch-free event.

“In addition, various sub-committees have swung into action to put in place all necessary arrangements for the grand reception,” he said.

Since the announcement of the reception date, political activities across Plateau State have intensified, with residents eagerly awaiting the historic event.

The organisers also revealed that a series of pre-event activities have been lined up, including press conferences, media engagements, and road shows across parts of the state.

President Tinubu is expected to personally receive Governor Mutfwang, alongside the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; progressive governors; and other party chieftains.

“With the level of arrangements so far put in place, the occasion is expected to be colourful and historic,” the statement added.

Amazon bets Nobel Prize-based dehumidification can cut its energy use

It’s not just you: restaurants, malls, and offices on steamy summer days really are kept colder than necessary. Air conditioning is as much about dehumidification as it is about cooling, especially in hot, humid climates like the U.S. South, where buildings can be fertile ground for hazardous molds.

“The reason they blast the air conditioner so much is because they’re trying to reduce the humidity,” Sorin Grama, co-founder and CEO of Transaera, told TechCrunch. “In some cases in commercial buildings, the air is so cold that they have to reheat it back up.”

So Transaera has developed a new type of ventilation unit that, the company says, is significantly more efficient than existing dehumidification techniques, saving users energy and money.

Amazon, which has been testing the unit for several months in Houston, recently signed on as a customer. Other companies are following suit, to the point where Transaera now has “nine figures” worth of purchasing targets from customers, Grama said. For Amazon, the purchase reserves capacity over the next three years.

“Amazon is considering this a design solution,” he said. “Once they find a solution that works, they put that into their design standard and replicate it across their building stock.”

The device, known as a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), can keep the air inside commercial buildings fresh while also lightening the load on the AC. It can remove 100 pounds of water from the air every hour, meaning the AC doesn’t have to run as hard.

The idea of a DOAS isn’t new, but Transaera says its unit is up to twice as efficient at removing moisture as existing systems.

Transaera’s secret sauce is a desiccant that coats a six-foot wheel which slowly spins inside each of its units. “It’s like silica gel on steroids.” Grama said. The company won’t disclose the specific desiccant, but it’s based on a class of materials that won its discoverers a Nobel Prize in 2025.

As air passes into the unit, the desiccant draws moisture out of the air, which then passes through a heat exchanger before being dispersed into the building. Stale air is drawn out of the building along with heat from the heat exchanger, which flows through the moisture-saturated wheel. The heat from that air releases the moisture from the desiccant so it can be exhausted outside.

Amazon said Transaera’s DOAS units will help the company reduce its energy use and help it on its path toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Transaera is working with existing manufacturers, including those in the U.S., to build the device. Its proprietary desiccant system slots into industry-standard commercial HVAC units. “It’s a like-for-like replacement of a legacy unit,” Grama said. “I think that’s what’s driving this demand — it’s an easy replacement.”

The Plateau State Government has directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute those involved in the April 30, 2026 killings in Sabon Gari and the subsequent violence on May 1, 2026 along the Mangu–Sabon Gari Road.

The government warned that “blocking of road in reprisal” will not be tolerated.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said in a statement on Tuesday that the state government is “concerned about the violence that took place on 1 May 2026 along the Mangu–Sabon Gari Road, where some persons blocked the road and attacked innocent commuters”.

“While we understand the anger over the killings of 30 April in Sabon Gari, violence and blocking roads are not acceptable.

“No grievance justifies attacking innocent people or disturbing public peace. The Government has directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those involved in both the 30 April killings and the 1 May disturbances. The law will take its course.”

The commissioner extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and also sympathised with everyone affected.

The commissioner commended Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies for their quick response in bringing the situation under control.

She called on community, religious, and political leaders to remain calm and help reduce tension, and urged citizens to use lawful channels to express their concerns.

“Government remains open to dialogue. Anyone who incites violence or takes the law into their hands, by blocking of road in reprisal will face the full weight of the law,” she warned.
