Chief Dr. Moses Nwan Governor Mutfwang’s 2nd Anniversary Less Privileged Pushit

In celebration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s second year in office, Chief Dr. Moses Nwan, mni, Executive Private Secretary to the Governor of Plateau State, spearheaded a large-scale empowerment initiative for the less privileged in Pushit Ward, Mangu Local Government Area.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, June 4, 2025, saw the distribution of fertilizers and cash support to selected beneficiaries from all 28 units of Pushit. The initiative specifically targeted widows and persons with disabilities to support their participation in the current farming season and reinforce the state government’s agricultural development agenda.

Speaking at the event, Chief Dr. Nwan, who also serves as the National President of the College of Education Gindiri Alumni Association (CEGAA), said the initiative was a personal commitment to uplifting the vulnerable while also celebrating Governor Mutfwang’s milestone.

“I have been doing this even before this administration,” he stated. “This gesture is to mark two years of productive and visionary leadership by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and to reinforce his drive to boost food production across Plateau.”

The event featured goodwill messages from dignitaries, including Barr. Mrs. Olivia Dazyam, Chairperson of the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission. She lauded Governor Mutfwang for reviving and operationalizing the commission, which had been inactive since its establishment in 2015.

“His Excellency revived this commission to ensure the rights of women and vulnerable groups are protected. I commend Chief Dr. Nwan for aligning with this vision through today’s empowerment,” she said, urging beneficiaries to use the support to increase food productivity.

Hon. Sani Abubakar Golden, Liaison Officer of Mangu North, described the intervention as timely and impactful. “These fertilizers and cash donations will go a long way in ensuring a successful farming season for our people,” he noted, while also applauding the Governor’s strides in restoring peace and supporting infrastructure development in Pushit and surrounding areas.

The traditional leader of Pushit, Mishkaham Da. Diner Gupiya, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the community. “This gesture is on a measurable scale. With fertilizers and financial assistance, our people are set to farm successfully this year,” he said.

Other dignitaries present included Hon. Alhaji Sani Idris Shilak, Tafidan Panyam and Fagacin Gindiri; Hon. Matthew Datong, PDP Chairman for Mangu LGA; and Mangu North East Liaison Officer to the Governor.

The event also included prayers for the continued success of Governor Mutfwang’s administration, with several beneficiaries pledging their support for his re-election bid in 2027.

In a lighter moment, guests extended warm wishes to Chief Dr. Nwan’s son, Panshak, and his fiancée, Esther, ahead of their wedding scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Jos.

The day was marked by a spirit of generosity, unity, and hope — a testament to community-driven leadership and a shared commitment to building a prosperous Plateau State.

BY SUNDAY SAMUEL The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has directed prominent lawyer Mike Ozekhome to stop using the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against him.

The decision was made in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines governing the award and regulation of the SAN rank. The measure will remain in force until the committee reaches a final decision on matters currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related proceedings.

According to the LPPC, the action is intended to protect the honour, reputation and standing of the prestigious SAN designation while the issues under consideration are thoroughly examined.

As a result, Ozekhome is prohibited from portraying or identifying himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary process is concluded.

The committee reaffirmed its dedication to promoting professionalism, ethical conduct and accountability within the legal profession, stressing the need to preserve public trust in the SAN institution.

Ozekhome was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2010, joining a group of 19 distinguished legal practitioners admitted to the Inner Bar that year.

Europe is pushing back on Washington’s chip war

Dutch Trade Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma visited Washington this week to meet with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and members of Congress to oppose the MATCH Act, a bill that would bar Chinese chipmakers from accessing Western semiconductor equipment, and one that would hit ASML especially hard.

ASML, based in the Netherlands, is Europe’s most valuable company and the only maker in the world of the sophisticated lithography machines that are used to make cutting-edge AI chips.

“It’s exceptional that I’m coming here to broadly outline our concerns to Congress,” Sjoerdsma told Bloomberg after the meetings. “The stakes for the Netherlands may be very high.”

China accounts for 19% of ASML’s net system sales. The MATCH Act would go further than existing controls, extending curbs to ASML’s deep ultraviolet immersion machines on top of the long-standing ban on its most advanced extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, tools reaching China.

As ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet told TechCrunch in May, what China can currently buy are older-generation deep ultraviolet tools — gear first shipped about a decade ago — the same machines the MATCH Act would now relegate off limits.

The bill, introduced in April, hasn’t yet faced a full House or Senate vote; Bloomberg notes it would likely need to be folded into a larger package to pass.
