Jos Comes Alive as Plateau Rolls Out Activities for World Tourism Day

Experience Tourism Like Never Before — with Tours and Cultural Festivities

The Plateau State Tourism Corporation has flagged off activities ahead of this year’s World Tourism Day celebration, themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” with a sanitation exercise and awareness carnival held in Jos.

At the Jos Wildlife Park, the Assistant General Manager of Wildlife, Mr. Damark Chodapi, explained that the clean-up was aimed at creating a healthy and welcoming environment for tourists.

“The work we are doing now is heralding the D-Day for World Tourism Day tomorrow. Cleaning the park by picking trash and slashing grasses is in line with the theme. If you leave a place unkempt, visitors will not be happy, and health-wise it’s not good. So, this clean-up is in order,” Chodapi said.

Speaking during the carnival float on Friday, General Manager of Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, said the awareness campaign was to sensitize the public on the significance of tourism and the need to support the sector.

“As a state known for tourism, we want the public to be significantly aware of tomorrow’s celebration. We’ve advertised across media platforms and organized this float to raise the tempo ahead of the day,” Pwajok stated.

He noted that Saturday’s events will begin with a guided tour of selected tourist sites within Jos, followed by the main celebration at Rayfield Resort, which will host government officials, private sector stakeholders, and the general public.

“It will be an opportunity to reflect on our journey as a tourism state, assess the challenges we face, and share ideas that will help us improve and develop our facilities,” he added.

Participants at the carnival expressed optimism about the impact of tourism. Mrs. Asabe Monday, a resident of Jos, praised the initiative, saying tourism helps preserve heritage for future generations.

“Tourism shows us everything our forefathers didn’t tell us. It motivates us as mothers to pass this knowledge to our children. The government is trying, but more effort is needed,” she said.

Also speaking, Miss Stephanie Veirat Joseph, the Face of Tourism Plateau State, described the 2025 celebration as a “wild experience” that will showcase the beauty of Plateau to both locals and visitors.

“The World Tourism Day will feature tours across Jos and climax at Rayfield Resort. I must commend the Plateau State Government and especially our Governor, who has shown real commitment to promoting tourism,” she said.

This year’s World Tourism Day activities include a mini cultural carnival, the sanitation exercise at Jos Wildlife Park, guided tours of attractions within the state capital, and cultural performances at Rayfield Resort, where the grand celebration will hold on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m.
