Plateau United technical adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has urged his players to stay focused in their fight against relegation.

The Peace Boys suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.

The defeat put Plateau United in a difficult position ahead of their final game of the season.

Plateau United will next be up against Kano Pillars in their season finale in Jos.

Ogunbote insisted that the team has to do everything possible to avoid relegation.

“Sometimes expectations are high and you don’t get it the way you wanted. The defeat against Nasarawa United was one of them,” Ogunbote told the club’s media.

“The defeat is a big setback. We just have to go back to work and ensure we avoid the drop.

“We will do our best as everybody has an equal chance going into the final day. We just have to go back and redefine our position in the league.”

Plateau United must win their game against Kano Pillars to secure their top-flight status.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has hinted that President Bola Tinubu might temporarily provide succour following the recent hike in the pump price of fuel.

Atiku said Tinubu’s intended action will be based on a planned protest by Lagos State transporters.

He made the disclosure at a world press conference on Friday.

According to Atiku, Tinubu will remove the fuel subsidy and succour if re-elected in 2027.

He said: “Let me also caution Nigerians that in the next few days there may be a demonstration by Lagos transporters and this will provide Bola Tinubu the excuse to temporarily provide succour of bringing back fuel subsidy and after being re-elected, go back to the same old policy.”

Meanwhile, Atiku has promised to restore the subsidy on fuel if elected president in 2027.

Recall that Tinubu ended the fuel subsidy regime during his presidential inauguration in 2023.

Since the removal, Nigeria has experienced a series of fuel price increments.

Super Falcons and Washington Spirit midfielder Deborah Abiodun has successfully undergone surgery following an injury that has ruled her out for the remainder of the season.

Sports247 reports that the 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder is now beginning the rehabilitation phase of her recovery as she works towards returning to full fitness.

Abiodun’s injury is also expected to keep her out of Nigeria’s upcoming Olympic qualifiers against Comoros next month, denying the Super Falcons the services of one of their emerging midfield talents for the crucial fixtures.

Despite the setback, Abiodun has maintained a positive outlook and used her experience to send an encouraging message to young footballers who may find themselves facing similar challenges.

Reflecting on the emotional side of undergoing surgery, the midfielder admitted that she was initially scared and nervous but encouraged other players to remain patient and resilient during difficult moments.

“It’s tough sometimes, but you got to keep going. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers,” Abiodun said.

She explained that her message was particularly intended to motivate younger players who may be dealing with injuries and the uncertainty that comes with being sidelined.

“I was scared and nervous. It gets better, hang in there,” she added.

The setback represents a frustrating interruption for Abiodun, who has continued to establish herself at both club and international level. Her absence will be felt by the Washington Spirit for the remainder of the campaign and could also affect Nigeria’s plans for the upcoming Olympic qualifying fixtures.

For now, the focus shifts entirely to rehabilitation as Abiodun begins the long road back to competitive football.

The Super Falcons midfielder will be hoping for a smooth recovery and a strong return to the pitch when she is eventually cleared to resume action.
