Newly Selected Ngolong Ngas Receives Temporary Letter Of Appointment in Plateau

Hon. Ephraim Usman, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Plateau State, has officially presented the temporary appointment letter of selection to the new Ngas Monarch, Ngolong Ngas Nde Jika Golit.

The Local Goverment and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner Comrade Usman while presenting letter of Appointment to the Ngas Monarch at his ministry in Jos, said the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang would continue to ensure due process is followed in the selection of traditional rulers on the Plateau.

According to him, Mutfwang administration is working round the clock to ensure there is unity among the people of his state irrespective of tribe and religion of the people.

“Due process was followed in the selection process of the new Ngolong Ngas,” Usman said.

According to him, the state government did not interfere in the selection of the new Ngas Paramount ruler.

He said that “the time is now administration” would continue to give support to Local Government or tribes that are ready to select their Leaders and promised to support whoever the people wants as their leader.

He urged the Ngas Nation to Pray for the unity of the State and the nation at large.

Usman promised that the Government on its part, will do everything humanly possible to bring democratic dividends to the citizens of Plateau state.

In his response, the new Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit stated that his selection was the will of God and thanked all the stake holders for the success of the process.

He promised to rule with the fear of God.

The new Ngolong Ngas Nde Jika Golit same day was presented to the state Secretary to Goverment Arch Samuel Jatau by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Mr Usman at new Government House little Rayfield Jos.

While receiving the new Ngas Paramount ruler, the Secretary to the Government of the state Arch Samuel Jatau who represented the state Governor Mutfwang at the event expressed Joy that due process was followed in the selection of the first Class traditional ruler.

He congratulated the new Ngolong Ngas and called on him to carry everybody along in other to unite Ngas people.

Arch Jatau assured the new Ngolong Ngas that the state government will do everything humanly possible to make the new Ngolong Ngas reign a memorable one.

It would be recalled that the new Ngolong Ngas Nde Jika Golit was selected on Friday, 13 October,2023 in Pankshin by the Pankshin/Kanke joint traditional council.

Until his selection, the new Ngolong Ngas was the District Head of Garram in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.

NFF Election: Segun Odegbami Questions Ibrahim Gusau’s Second-Term Bid

Former Super Eagles captain and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner Segun Odegbami has questioned the decision to retain the current Nigeria Football Federation leadership, calling for a fresh direction ahead of next month’s NFF elections.

Odegbami believes Nigerian football needs a serious conversation about its future before stakeholders proceed with another election cycle.

The NFF elective congress is scheduled to take place next month in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where incumbent president Ibrahim Gusau is expected to seek a second four-year term.

Speaking on the state of Nigerian football, Odegbami criticised what he described as a recurring leadership pattern and urged stakeholders to consider alternative leadership.

“There are so many things that are wrong. We need to have a serious conversation before they jump into elections that we have seen already,” Odegbami said.

The former Green Eagles captain also questioned the performance of the current administration, particularly against the backdrop of Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“They did not take us to the World Cup. They should not be there.

That’s what we are saying.

“Let’s get other people to task.”

Odegbami stressed that his position was not motivated by personal disagreements with members of the federation but by his desire to see Nigerian football develop.

“We are all friends. It’s not about personalities; it’s about the interest of Nigeria.

“Let’s take this decision in the interest of the people, in the interest of the clubs, and not in the interest of those who are perpetuating themselves in office. That’s what we are saying,” he added.

The forthcoming NFF election is expected to generate significant interest within Nigerian football, with Gusau seeking another term amid calls from some stakeholders for changes in the federation’s leadership and administration.

The current administration has faced criticism over several issues, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and concerns surrounding the management and development of domestic football.

However, the period has also produced notable achievements, including Nigeria’s runners-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the Super Falcons’ triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Odegbami’s comments are likely to add further intensity to the debate ahead of the Lafia congress, with stakeholders expected to decide whether Nigerian football is better served by continuity under Gusau or a change in leadership.

The central question ahead of the election remains whether the NFF should maintain its current direction or embrace a new leadership approach capable of restoring Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
