In a bold move to consolidate past gains and steer Plateau State towards sustainable development, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has presented the 2025 Budget Estimate of ₦471,134,093,541 to the Plateau State House of Assembly for deliberation and approval.

Dubbed the “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” the proposed financial plan is structured to enhance the well-being and welfare of Plateau citizens while fostering economic growth. Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing people-centric projects directly impacting lives across the state.

The budget breakdown includes a recurrent expenditure of ₦201,522,433,264 (43.46%) and a capital expenditure of ₦258,852,660,277 (56.54%), reflecting a strong emphasis on infrastructure and development initiatives.

Focus Areas: Peace, Security, and Economic Transformation
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of peace, security, and economic transformation in the state. He reassured Plateau citizens of his administration’s dedication to revitalizing the economy through impactful programs across various sectors.

The budget aligns with the principles of the Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) program, funded by the World Bank. This ensures that the budget process remains transparent, accountable, and inclusive.

People-Centered Development and Grassroots Engagement
A key highlight of the 2025 budget is its grassroots focus. The administration incorporated feedback from citizens gathered during town hall engagements across all 17 LGAs. Over 70 critical community-driven projects have been identified for implementation, ensuring that the budget reflects the most pressing needs of Plateau residents.

In a move to extend government presence to local communities, Governor Mutfwang introduced the Ward Development Initiative (WDI). This program aims to bring development directly to all 325 state electoral wards, addressing community-specific needs through targeted projects.

Governor Mutfwang urged the Plateau State House of Assembly to expedite the budget’s passage to facilitate timely execution of critical projects. He directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to actively participate in budget defense sessions and provide necessary information for effective deliberation.

Expressing appreciation to the legislative body for their unwavering support, the Governor commended their resilience and dedication to the state’s progress. “Our administration remains resolute in transforming Plateau State into a hub of peace, progress, and prosperity,” he stated.

In response, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel K. Dewan, lauded the Governor’s steadfast commitment to development despite economic challenges. He expressed confidence that the budget, when implemented, would stimulate growth, attract investments, and improve Plateau citizens’ living standards.

“The House remains committed to sustaining a collaborative relationship with the executive to navigate the current economic difficulties and ensure sustainable growth and prosperity,” the Speaker assured.

As Plateau State prepares for another fiscal year, all eyes are on the government’s ability to effectively implement this ambitious budget and deliver tangible progress to the people.

Troops Rescue Six Abducted Travellers in Plateau, Search Ongoing for Missing Driver

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) rescued six travellers abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyin Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The rescue operation followed a swift response by troops of Sector 6 Operation Enduring Peace after receiving a distress call in the early hours of Friday.

According to the Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Captain Polycarp Oteh, troops immediately mobilised to the area and successfully rescued six of the abducted victims, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victim, identified as the driver of the vehicle.

“At the early hours of today, troops of Sector 6 Operation Enduring Peace responded to a distress call on a kidnapping incident and swiftly mobilised, successfully rescuing six out of the kidnapped victims,” Oteh said.

“Deliberate effort is currently ongoing to rescue the driver. There is no cause for alarm. Troops are on top of the situation.”

The incident occurred when suspected kidnappers reportedly intercepted a vehicle conveying passengers from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Jos, Plateau State.

On arrival at the scene, troops discovered an ash-coloured Honda vehicle abandoned by the roadside with its occupants missing.

A search-and-rescue operation was immediately launched in the surrounding bushes, leading to the successful rescue of six victims identified as Ibrahim Usman, Ali Ibrahim, Sabiu Idris, Private Ibrahim Musa, Hamisu Abubakar and Joshua Johanna.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were travelling from Lafia to Jos when their vehicle was intercepted by the kidnappers along the route.

Security sources said intensive search operations are continuing in the area to locate the missing driver and prevent further criminal activities along the highway.

Operation Safe Haven said troops remain on high alert, with routine patrols ongoing across the Joint Operations Area to protect communities and critical infrastructure from security threats.
