New Leaders at Plateau State’s Tertiary Institutions: Governor Appoints Five Heads

Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced the temporary appointment of new heads for five public tertiary institutions in Plateau State through a press release issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel N. Jatau.

  1. Professor Shedrach Best will lead Plateau State University, Bokkos, as Vice-Chancellor.
  2. Dr. Clement Chirman takes the helm as Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi.
  3. Associate Professor Lazarus Maigoro becomes Provost of the College of Education, Gindiri.
  4. Dr. Jonathan Bulus is appointed Provost of the College of Health Technology, Zawan, while
  5. Dr. Markus Avong assumes the same position at the College of Health Technology, Pankshin.

These appointments are effective immediately, and the new leaders are tasked with addressing two key areas: the relationship between institution management and staff, and the institutions’ financial situation, including income sources and expenditures.

The announcement follows the previous dissolution of governing councils and the removal of heads at these institutions in January 2024.

Governor Mutfwang’s action aims to bring about positive change in the state’s tertiary education sector by fostering better internal collaborations and ensuring sound financial management. The appointees’ qualifications and experience suggest they are well-equipped to tackle these challenges.

The specific reasons for the temporary nature of these appointments and the criteria for considering them permanent were not mentioned in the press release. It is anticipated that further information will be made available in the coming days or weeks.
