Troops Neutralise Two Bandits, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Plateau
Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have neutralised two armed bandits and recovered arms, ammunition, and other items during a successful raid in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The operation, which took place on May 12, 2025, was based on credible intelligence and targeted a suspected bandits’ hideout at Teng Mountain/Forest. According to a statement by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, troops engaged the criminals in a gun battle and overpowered them with superior firepower.
Two bandits were neutralised during the encounter, and a subsequent search of the hideout led to the recovery of several items, including:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One AK-47 magazine
- One fabricated rifle capable of firing 7.62mm (Special) rounds
- Seven rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
- Four mobile phones
- Two motorcycles
- ₦157,900 in cash
The recovered arms and ammunition are currently in military custody, while the mobile phones are being analyzed to assist in tracking other members of the criminal syndicate.
Operation SAFE HAVEN has reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements threatening peace in the region. The command urged continued support and cooperation from the public in exposing criminal hideouts and activities.
Nine people have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus at Dungus, Kuru District, Jos South council area.
The police command in Plateau confirmed the attack in a statement by its spokesman, Alfred Alabo, on Monday.
The command said it received a distress report at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday that terrorists operating on a motorcycle had attacked the bus.
According to the statement, the Toyota bus, with registration number BUU 621 ZL, was conveying passengers to Jos when the gunmen opened fire.
It said seven people were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others who sustained gunshot injuries later died in hospital. The police said the development brought the total number of fatalities from the attack to nine.
The police commissioner, Ayodeji Faniyan, immediately mobilised Mobile Police operatives, tactical teams, homicide detectives and forensic experts to the scene.
