The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) is set to welcome electoral leaders from across the country as it hosts the 13th National Delegates Conference of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria (FOSIECON). The announcement was made by PLASIEC Chairman, Mr. Plangui Daniel Cishak, during a press briefing held on May 13, 2025.
According to Mr. Cishak, the upcoming national conference represents a significant milestone not only for Plateau State but also for Nigeria’s democratic development. The event will bring together electoral commissioners and stakeholders from all 36 states of the federation, fostering collaboration, peer review, and the sharing of best practices in electoral management.
“This is a moment of pride for Plateau State,” Mr. Cishak stated. “We are honored to host our counterparts from across the country in what promises to be a robust and forward-looking dialogue on electoral integrity and innovation.”
Since taking office in June 2023, the PLASIEC Chairman has steered the commission through transformative reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and public trust. A high point of his leadership was the successful conduct of the October 9, 2024 Local Government Elections. Widely hailed as peaceful, free, and credible, the elections marked a turning point for electoral administration in Plateau State.
Mr. Cishak credited the media for playing a key role in the credibility of the electoral process. “From pre-election education to real-time coverage and post-election analysis, the press served as a critical partner in our democratic journey,” he noted.
